At 8 o'clock the boys' ' and girls' mid advanced normal classes mot In their usual places , and the ox- nrclses wore ronducted by Uov. J. T. DockIng - Ing and Uov. I. C. W. Coxo. At It o'clock Dean Wright , of Boston , con ducted the blblo study nt the tubernuclo. IX'iin Wright is \vliolu theological show in himself. Whoever thinks a blblo study Is dry , tedious work will bo happily surprised by listening : to Dean Wright. His classes nnd audience have to give vent to enthusiasm in npplauso und to emotions by tears and laughter. At the snmo hour Rev. W. Tranter met the intermediate normal class In the Congrega tional tout. It requires a personal visit to each of these classes to realize the extensive reach of the studies pursued , from the pri mary , or junior class , to tlio assembly study , taking in the children , the youth and the ndults. Uov. Mr. Tranter devotes all his time to the education of Sunday school teachers , a department of great value in the Sunday school university of Chicago. At 10 o'clock , Prof. Cumnock met his classes in elocution. At II o'clock ho gave nn entertainment of dramatic uml humorous rcui'ings. Ho ranks at the Ucad in bis linn. Ho docs not indulge In the vocal contortions so common with cheap elocutionists. One forgets him wlulo he is reading or reciting , and is lost in the piece itself , but never for gets him or the selection afterwards. Ho is u strongly emotional man. and fools as well us uots. One of hi * pupils , In stopping from the class room , apologized to u friend for her eyes being red with weeping "I've Just been in Prof. Cumnock's class , and I couldn't help it.Vhou ho reads some passages you can't keep from crying. Their reputation has suffered some from tlio numcruiiti cheap , troupe , like these genuine ones only In name. The singers now hero are indeed sweet ones , and their concerts havu been most heartily enjoyed. At 4 o'clock p. m. " Following tills caino n concert by the Na tional band. The b.ind , which gives con certs daily. Is n grand one. A petition , signed by all the property owners and lease holders at the lake , to incorporate the town of Mnnnv.v. , has been tiled In the district court. It U proposed to take in n traut four miles square , embracing the lake nnd all land bordering upon it. The reason assigned by the peti tioners for this move is that tlioy desire to have some control over the resort , nnd that sueli control Is necessary to the successful operation of the place. They desire to have a full board of town ofllcciB , magistrate and constable , sn that all offenders may bo properly and summarily dealt with , an well as that certain needed im provements may bo mudo and necessary reg ulations passed. Tno proposed town site docs not extend as far north as ttio southern city limits , but will take In the entire lake frontage. The property owners are pf the opinion that the formation of a town there would result beneficially , nnt only to them , but to the visiting public ns well. An Important real estate deal was made yesterday by George Mctcalf and J. It , Illco , by which they became the owners of the old Taroox property , located on the road leading to the dcat and dumb Institute. This la ono of the ilnest tracts of suburban property In Council Uluffs. It comprises twenty acres , covered with nursery stock and ornamental trees. Connected with the deal are some Important projects for that portion of the city. It is well known that the two gentle men nio largely interested In the proposed new electric motor line to connect the two cities via the Union Pncitic bridge , nnd the line runs through this tract. It Is not in tended to plat it into small lots , but it is to ho used for su burban residences , and the probabilities are that within u very short time some of the finest homes In Council Bluffs will bo built there , chlelly by Omaha people. The tract Is grandly located , looking upon ono of the finest panoramas in the city. It is bounded on the north by Woodbury uvonuo , on the south by Twenty-ninth avenue , and South avenue passes through it. Water in Grout Drminil. About 7 o'clock lust evening the flro de partment was again called out to extinguish n lire ut a couple of burns owned by Samuel Bluckmun and occupied by J. W. Kelley on Upper Broadway. The building was llrod by some children who wore playing there. Blackmail's barn was completely destroyed , but two horses which were inside were saved. Kelley hud a buggy nna two sets of harness destroyed. This lire again demonstrated the fact that the mams in the su burbs are either too small or clogged up. The pressure secured was altogether inade quate and almost useless. Water could not bo thrown ton feet , nnd it was twenty min utes by the watch after additional pressure was called for , before a perceptible increase was noticed. The recent flrcs in the outskirts present strong arguments in favor of returning the steamers to active service , nna placing the elephantine truck on the retired list. Yes terday's pressure was strong enough to burst the mains on Pearl street und Fifth avenue , still the lire protection in the suburbs was altogether inadequate. The matter calls for a thorough investiga tion nt once , und certain changes should bo devised to Insure the protection for which annual taxes are levied. The flro dopurt- inent claims that the waterworks company is to blame , and the latter Insists that , the flro department should use something smaller than n 1-lnch nozzle on a 4-inch main. A careful examination and investigation is needed , and the council snould attend to it nt once. C. B. Trunk Factory moved to Chapman's old stand. Largest trunk factory in west.
