CutCAoo , May SO. fSpsolnl Telegram to Tun 1JBB.1 The whont market started oft briskly and brashly to-dny , with .luly solllnff nt ? "c right nt the opening , nnd 77J c n few , minutes afterward. December wns worth 16 o. The object of greatest Interest and closcdt study , before and around the opening \VM the weather mup. This showed general rams In the latitude of Chicago as far west us Iowa , and as fur cast as Ohio. Wisconsin and Michigan were down as IroUeil , and the northern half of the latter state was labeled "hilling frost. " An area of high barometer In the northwest la looming up on the map , nnd this wns taken by n majority of ninntonr weather students to presage warmer nnd drier weather. The avertige of temperature is still very low , however , over an extensive nrca , including nlmost all the territory north nnd north west of the Ohio river , and clearing Bides and frosts nro expected to-night , which may bo dangerous. Some weather exports contend that the high barometermentioned HR leading the way docs not mean that the wcathor Is going to turn out warmer Imme diately , but the reverse. However , the 'ocal ' crowd Jumped to the conclusion that the danger of the further extension of the fiost nrca to the southward w.is put for the pros- cnt , and that the thing to do was to sell Wheat. This they did with the result that the market eased off. The outside world sent In a good many buying orders through the day and Ilutcuinson gave the market his support , but to no avail. July sold down to "O o before 12 o'clock , and did not react sturdily or strongly from any of the Inter mediate fractional declines. The year and December were bought f rccly by Hutch'.n- son , and Poolu llgurcd as the largest seller of remote futures. December worked do wn from 7Gc to 75J < c. Probably the most po tent feature of the weakness was , the news that came In from Minneapolis. Samplu tables , on 'change at that point wcru repre sented to bo loaded down , and the dcmund limited. The local tendency to "pound the market" strengthened us the session drew to n close , and operations bcc.itnu large. The crowd did not succeed , however , In breaking prices , which closed at a small reaction from the Inside range , viz : Mnv 78J.fo , Juno Tic , July 70 } @ 70 HC , December 70fciJ. This makes n decline ofJ c in ftmy , loin Juno , ? ii@Kc 'a ' July , and ifec in De cember. Couusclman led lu the selling of July nnd June , and was reported to bo un loading elevator stocks for local account. As before stilted , however , the big move ment of the country wheat back of Minne apolis was the chief factor of the depression , apparently. There was a moderate amount of trading In corn nnd u fairly firm fcclmp existed. IThe receipts were about as estimated yester day , and for to-morrow a quantity equal to to-day's arrivals was calculated on. Clear ances troin Atlantic ports were quito mode rate , but from Now Orleans they were con siderable , 7-1,000 bushels haviair cleared from there yesterday for Liverpool and 100,000 bushels for Cork. There wns un active shipping demand hero for cash offerings , nnd Kew York advised n good demand there to day from oxDortcrs , The other domestic inurlcctn wore firm as the outlook for coming crops was considered not quito us promising as before. The cold , wet weather , -with frost in some localities , gave a strength to the market , however , more from fear of the damage which might yet result than from any which has yet accrued. The estimated receipts for to-morrow wore 770 cars. Freight engage ments to-day were for 325,000 bushels. The advance in prices , which was the result of the day's trading , was confined to yAc in May , Juno nnd September deliveries. July closed at the same prices as on thn day before. Oats were in good request and # 0 higher early , but the strength was not sustained to the close. Reports of possible crop damage as the result of recent rains caused the local shorts to cover , and there were fair outsidu buying orders. The Increased offerings ut the top proved excessive , however , nnd , after selling as high as SS July declined toSSj c , or below yesterday's lowest price , Juno soil- intr down from SiS c , early , to Sl ? 21Jsc , September ruling relatively steadier. Sales of cash oats wore largely by sample nnd to go to special houses , with No. 2 regu lar salable at about 21 % < t$21-i'o. ! Provision traders passed a somewhat un interesting day. From the opening to within thirty minutes of adjournment trad- lug was dull and practically featureless. As the close approached , however , some shorts , unwilling to stand on their trades , as they should go over the holiday rest , to-morrow , showed some disposition to cover. Fern brief time they bid freely for products , ana taking advantage of the uneasiness mani fested , the holders gave prices something of n boom. The closing consequently was marked by a strong nnd advancing market. Business rested with n range nlghor than that of yesterday.
