OMAHA DAILY BEE. TjtoESDAY , APHIL 9. 3880. HIE SPECULATIVE MARKETS , Bulls Caught Honvlly in the July Break. WHEAT FUTURES TAKE A TUMBLE Tlic Mqitlilntlon of the May Donl Continues A Decline In Corn Cnttlo About All Bold Hogs Drop. CHICAGO PRODUCE MARKETS. CHICAGO , April 8. [ Special Tclcgrnm to TUB Lies. ] The liquidation of the BO-cnllcil Muy deal continued to-day , nnd n fur- thcr break of 4a In that Oollvory caused a sharp decline In the Inter futures. The foot rnco between the clique nnd the big tillers , which hold the attention of everybody for the better jxirtof last week , was ono of the most unique episodes In the history of speculation on the Chicago hoard of trade. It Involved the abandonment of the Imiilonso prospective profits by the heavy holders in their efforts to get rid of ono big "taller , " und Incidentally n host of others of n llko Ilk. Uloom , against whom tha simke- out raid was principally directed , was the last big holder to let go , apparently , but to day there was further dumping of miscel laneous lines. The liquidation of the orig inal Muy wheat deal Is now generally con ceded to bo pretty thoroughly dono. Indned , thcro Is n possibility Unit it Is overdone. In their eagerness to help the decline along many operators put out new lines of short wheat , und thcro Is u bare chnncu that the foundation has been laid tor another dangerous short Interest. Conservative com mission merchants nro advising against the reckless selling of wheat for May uud Juno delivery on the now crop prospects. May wheat opened at OOJ c , sold oft easily nnd without excitement to 8'Jc and after n while took a plunge to below 87c. The low est of lnl quotation on this break was S0c , but thcro were sales nt @n8c lower. Ao - action took the prlco to 83c , nnd another * break between 12 and 1 o'clock landed It nt Bo UIU1 Bt"l 'alcr ' to SUJ/c. Muy aud Juno kept very close together most of the day aud the trading lu both months was on n lively scale. The range for Juno was SO ) @ 9J ! ) c. May nnd Juno monopolized the lion's share of the attention in the early part of the ses sion , nnd July did not get fairly under head way until nearly 11 o'clock. Up to that time the prlco had ranged nt & 5o early , down to 65c nnd up to 8r > JfrJS5 ( o. Slumpl- ncsftnnd Mugging suddenly possessed July , nnd tbi.mnrkot slid oft to 84c , with enor mous tinding on the decline. The ruin In the winter wheat districts and the hope of rain in tha northwest Induced frca offerings of July , nnd the collupsu of the May denl in tensified the feeling. It was deemed per fectly snfo to sell the whole ot the next crop under the circumstances , nnd this sentiment Beamed to control during tha last hour of business. The markets wcra limp us n rag nnd seemingly without n semblance of sup port , The pressure wiis heavy up to the close. July worked down to 8lc ! , recovered spasmodically % c , when some of the big sluggers'rotIml for breath , but it settled again to 84o ! and closed nt b.1Xc , As com pared with Snturdny. This records a loss of 2ac. Muy nnd Juno each closed 4fc lower 111 an Snturdny , the liquidation all around to-day was very heavy. In Mny nnd Juno the liquidation was compared to the "clear- lug out sale of u bargain counter. " With July it was of n different chnructer. The bulls , who hnvo b'ecn warned out of May , felt rcasonnbly secure in July , uud the Do de cline lu thnt future has cnutrht a great many of them Heavily , 'tho principal buyers to-day were the shorts , who covered only to put out their lines ugaln. Ream and Cudntiy , who bavo been doing little in wheat since the mn- iiipulution commenced , appeared to-day as leading sellers. The outside news was not Important to-day , aud it was not in demand. The other American markets sympathized with the weakness hero , nnd the foreign ndvlces Indicated softness abroad. "Tho for eigners can always bo.it us on a down-hill race , " was the sngo remark of n veteran commission merchant yearn ago , and this truth is ns applicable now as then. The weuicnefls in the wheat market and tlio very favorable weather for farm work ivcro the doprcsslng Influences which caused the decline in corn. Trading , however , was noi active , and after a decline m futures of about Jfc , business ceased almost entirely. The buyers of the lower grades for rail shipment were likewise enabled to buy to better advantage to-day , but thoru was no great pressure to sell at the decline. The decrease of 337,000 bushels in the visible Bupuly , making the total quantity now 10 , 610,810 , was of no assistance to the market , ns corn was at Its weak' est after the statement was an nounced. The quantity in sight at the parallel time last year was 8,503,1)37 ) bushels. From Now Orleans 25,000 bushels wcro cleared for llavro on Saturday. There was moro doing in the way of changing from Mny to July at the J o spread than in direct trading , The continued heaviness in. wheat nnd provisions prevented any reaction in corn , and the closing Ifgurcs were the lowest of the day , nnd show n decline siucu Satur day of from ) i to Jgu. The estimated receipts > ceipts for to-uiorrow arc 45U cars. The oat market was much moru active thai : recently , nnd n Inrgo speculative business was recorded , with prices quito 'utisnuled May was the fuvonto , though the trade extended to nil the months recently named After a quiet opening nt 25o Mny sold up to SOo under liberal buylucr on the part of i few larg'o operators nud rather meago offerings. The improvement was not sus tallied , for nt this point u largo number o traders entered und there were free offer ing * and rcalUlng with u subsequent } u do clmo nnd n ilunl easy closing. From 35J/C Juno sold down to UlXc , with July at nearly the same range and April ut 23o early. Casl lota shared In the later weakness , and No. nuulnr wn olTcred nt 2 < X ° - ! Provisions ruled In harmony with othe fc lendinglluos. The weakness developed b the break In wheat and corn was Icci onset by an easier fooling In hogs , ana from the opqulng the boars were independent nnd ng grossivo. The tendency bolng in their u roction nud the market not oven commaml lug ordinary support , they showed no lies tnncy to sell property. The hammerers were out in full force , and whenever buyers npppured they were simply loaded down with offerings. It was n boar dity , and , as , a con sequence , the change in prices all around were of onu kind , nnd that on the side of n lower rnnge. Uased on Saturday's last quo tations , tlio decline actually rnudo in _ pork amounted to UlM@\Oa ; In lard to nud in short ribs to HXjrjlSo. CHICAGO iS STOCK. CHICAGO , April 8. [ Special Telegram to THE llr.n.1 STOCKS Thcro were no now features In stock * this morning , nnd no clmngo of sentiment from Saturday. Before the week closed the temporary wily of the preceding two dnys was nt nn end , nnd n feeling of depression , caused In pnrt by the unfavorable bank statement , wns felt. The declines begun nt the close of the week were continued this morning. The stock market opened with fnlr activity , whllo prices wcro & to % lower. The activity was largely confined to Atchison , Missouri Pa cific , Northwestern , Union Pnclllc , Burlington - ton und a few otnors. At the end of the hour nddltlonnl deliveries xvero recorded In many securities , whllo Missouri Pacific yielded J nnd Atchison wont down 1J/ per cent from the close of Saturday. At U n. m. there wns no sign of n rally and prices wcro nt the bottom for the morning. A half hour Inter thcro wns a slight recovery , which only served to cnuso n renewal of the pressure , nnd n general decline followed , In which Missouri Pnclllc nnd AtchUon suffered most , cnch selling 1J per tent under the opening figures. The other declines wcro fractional , whllo Northwestern , Burlington , Union Pn- cltie nnd St. Paul were specially nctlvo. The decline nud activity both ceased nbout noon nnd the market was heavy with prices but slightly recovered.
