Tnn Br.n. | It Is now generally conceded
that so far ns the late bull clique is con
cerned the deal In Mny wheat has passed
Into the domain of nnclcnt history , and oven
the culmlnntlne episode which yesterday bid
fair to furnish food for ton days' gossip Is
now sunk beneath the placid surface of the
waters of oblivion. Jn plainer und moro presale -
sale terms , Leopold Bloom , who appeared to
bo cogitating a May sensation on his own ac
count , has taken counsel of discretion , nnd
Is said to have dropped the plnguoy stuff to-
uny. July will now bo in undisturbed su
premacy In the dealings , if the Impression
which exists regarding the Mny deal being
about evened up should prove correct. The
fluctuations in May were ns erratic nnd
wild ns over , but within a narrower range.
The extremes were OOJf nnd 04e , the clos
ing price , 02c , showing a decline since
yesterday of Itfc. July , on the contrary ,
shown n gain for the same tithe of % c. The
trndl , v was occasionally very active , and nt
Intervals was extremely dull , the latter con
dition existing principally in the first half of
the session , when uncertainty nnd doubt.pro-
vnilcd regarding the relations existing be
tween Bloom nnd the FulrUmk-IIutchlnson-
Lyon-nnd-Bakor clique nnd the remainder of
the local wire pullers to cachothornnd to the
deal in May , but utter that cloud had been
dispersed more confidence nnd nctlvity
marked the sense of relief experienced by
the general crowd. Now York was firm ,
which was said to bo duo to the export In-
gulry there.
There was a flrm undertone to the corn
market. Export clearances were In heavy
demand ho fpr cash corn for Immediate
shipment , and rcreints were moderate. July
was in moderate request by some parties who
were sellers in May , und for .the latter
month sellers were scarce until the
price touched 35c , which brought out
some long stuff from the scalpers who saw n
moderate prollt in parting with it nt that
price. The receipts nt the other receiving
points were moderate with everything favor
able to a free movement. The propeller
Sunrise wns chartered to take 25,000 bushels
to Ogdensburg. Prices nt close show nn im-
pnJvonient ot about } e on Mny , nnd the
Inter features of Juno nnd July , a trillo
easier te-tlny than yesterday.
In provisions less than the average busi
ness was transacted. Pork was traded In
pretty freely early , but lard and short ribs
were slow from the start , nnd even in "pork
dullness assumed control before the close.
Tlio general market appeared to bo wanting
in attraction , though it was unquestionably
possessed of n strong undertone. In pork , in
Tact , the movement wns bullish , and when
the board adjourned the prices fo. the differ
ent deliveries showed a clean appreciation of
aOo on yesterday's last quotation. Lard fully
held Its own , and short ribs closed un-
iangcd to 2j < fc higher.

NEW YOUK , April 5. [ Special Telegram
to Tin : BEE.I STOCKS 'Hie result of Thurs
day's operations in the stock market did not
create any great amount of bull enthusiasm ,
but loft the street In condition to expect even
moro favorable notion on the reaction. When
trading wns resumed this morning there was
nn expansion of the active interest. As for
novcral days past the opening was at slightly
bolter ligures , followed nt lirst by depression
all through the list , and later in the hour by
an upward movement of so mo importance.
The principal animation early was In Atchl-
Bon , Heading , Missouri Pacific and St. Paul ,
Jersey Central also showed fair nutlon and
some strength , while Texas Puclilo got some
attention also. A side feature was an advance -
vance of 2) per cent in Pittsburg nnd West
ern preferred. The rally which tool : place
in the list about 11 a. m. not only regained
the declines , but put prices generally above
the opening and on the whole % per cent
over the close Thursday. Before noon there
wns a period of dullness whllo the list re
mained flrm , nnd Atchison V'y further ad
vanced. About midday prior/yielded n. little
tlo , but on the whole remained bettor than
atlthc i opening. The bulls predict an advance -
vance of several points In the active securi
ties as soon as the forces are n line. The
dullness which prevailed at noon In stocks
was followed by fair animation later in the
day , and a renewal of strength and an up
ward tendency , as on Thursday , The first
bulge after noon put prices at the best points
of the day for nearly all the active stocks ,
and still inter the advance was suftlciont to
record bettor gains at the close than noted se
curities yesterday. There wns no real change
In the situation , nnd buying by the bhorts
helped prices to advance. The gains over
last night at the close were V i per cent in
Burlington , Missouri.Pnclllo . , Northwestern
and Atchison , with } { in St. Paul and Louis

The market was higher again to-day , lOo
higher on most kinds of cattle. Desirable
medium weight eattlo , whlcti formed the bulk
of the receipts , wuro in demand at , the ad-
venco and , In fact , the trade was active on
all grades nnd the yards wore cleared by
uilildiiy. Heavy cattle were not so much
higher , and , in fact , big cattle have not ad
vanced ns much in proportion during the
past two weeks ns other grades. Tidy little
cattle are rather scarce and they nro soiling
liiglier in proportion than most anything
olso. Tlio prices paid for beeves to-day

f3 & 0 < # 8 t-5. The supply of butchorn' stock
coiitlnutiH verv light und the market to-day
was nctivo and higher. It would be stifo to
any that cow stull is selling 'JOyj So higher
than last week. Some Hay Htutu cows sold
ut $3.00. There were really no feeders hero ,
but a few cattle which had been fed some
corn were sold for feeders at $3.15. The
marktit upon the whole was very satisfactory
nud thu pi Ices paid the best this season ,
Tlio market of to-day , like that of every
other day for the past wcolc or ton dirys , was
devoid of now features. Prices for seine
timu back have boon very steady and the
trade has been in the eatno condition from'
day to day. The market to-day was a shade
stronger than yesterday and fairly active ,
the puns bolug cleared in good season in the
inurniug.
Hlieop.
Only ono load xvas received , nnd it sold
very high , owing to the scarcity of sheep and
the strong demand. There Is n steady de
mand for a few loads of fat sheep every day
but of lute they have not been coming very
'
freely.

WARD
Ho Tricil to Hun tin ; Centennial Bull
Arrangements.
New YOUK , April 5. [ Special Telegram to
TUB Hni : . ] The announcement last night
that Mr. Ward McAllister , the only original
leader of Now Vork "society , " the origina
tor and inventor of the exclusive "four hun
dred , " and inanager-ln-chief of the coming
centennial ball nnd banquet , had resigned , is
just n trifle off. McAllister was "bounced , "
just ns if ho were common clay , by the sub
committee on entertainment of the commit
tee on the Washington centennial. Tills
tremendous piece of news has caused n
llutter in social circles. The fact of the
matter is McAllister can thank his intolera
ble priggishncss and conceit for the downfall.
As Jong as McAllister was willing to go
ahead with the arrangements for the ball
und banquet in the quiet and unostentatious
way in which the other committcemcn did
their work , there was harmony in the com
mittee , but when Manager McAllister bciruti
to run things with n high hand nnd got him
self in Iho newspapers in u way to hold the
committee up to ridicule as a lot of snobs ,
trouble began. Then again , ho insisted that
none of the "canaille" should be invited
that such common trash as members of tlio
legislature , city olllcials , etc. , were not good
enough to come in and llnaijv his unauthor
ized selection of the names of the ladies who
shall dance In the opcnlni ? quadrille , scorn to
have erystalli/cct the unpopularity of his
course with his fellow committecmen and lie
was removed from his high position. Mc
Allister is said to bo a lawyer , although no ono
over heard of bis having n case of inomcnt.
Ho married money n few years ago and
pu bhcd himself forward ns iho ruler of soci
ety , ana it hai como to bo considered that no
nilair in swelldom was quite the thing unless
he had the bossing of it.

sui.s , April 5. ISoulnngcr held n con

supporters in the French chamber of depu

sued by the general doming of the veto in
tbo chamber yesterday sanctioning bis prosecution -
ocution and appealing to the pcopio against
the Government nnd chamber. The French
Kovernment is urging Uelgium to expel

The opportunist nnd radical press regard

day ns a death blow to Houhingcrlsm.
Count Dillon and' Hochofort will bo prose

tion with the Uoulnngist movement.
Later Count Dillon and Uochcfort have
