tramps , and last night the man of the town
determined to give them nn escort out.
Lost night night ot thorn were found at the
depot. Thirty or forty villagers , headed by
the marshal , nrmod themselves with stout
staves and formed a gantlet line along tha
rnllroad track out of lovvp. Between these
lines the tramps were compelled to run , ono
at a time , their speed bolng accelerated by
blows well laid on. The vagabonds wcra
unmercifully whipped , blood trlcklhiR from
some of them when they reached the end ol
the lino. They were then allowed to go
with u warning that if they catno back they
would bo soused into the river.
