Tin : HKB.I This was "tho tiny after the
IjfttHo. " In whcnt , tlio market was
nervous find narrow , narrower than
tlio ranRC of tirieo chaiiRC.s would
indicato. The course of values was down
ward , though the marlict dliln't develop any
duoldcd tendency until thn Bcnslon was half
through. The opening for Muy was anywhere -
where between ? 1.W ( and Jl.r.iJ ( , Tlio tnar-
ket advanced to fl.OtiJf , moved up and down
hovcral times xvithln limits of H.OSjJtfWil.OSjf ,
the bottom , and ? I.U9r < M.'JH' ( ) , tlic top. This
carried the marliot up to about hulf-mist 11
o'clock , when the price slid down to tl.OTJf.
A rally took the price back to SI. OS , and an-
ottier sliiinp took It down to Sl.or'j' , with
alcs as low as tl. ( ) 3 ( , ' . It Jarred the longs
somewhat , and ti recovery to fl.OTJf fol
lowed , but the maricet lacked snap , though
prices did not i > o below the limit mentioned.
Tills may Imvo been duo moro to the failure
of the sore and bruised bears to press
their lulvuntairo than to a Hiiftlcicncy of
support. Tlio last quotation wasl.W , or ls
below yesterday. July wheat sufferecl iulto |
a break. The close last night was .Jl.O.'i'h
nml the opening this niorniiiK ? 1.M ( % . Tlio
highest point reached was Sl.d.Vf , , and tlio
lowest ? ! . ( . The closine price to-night was
' .KJfi ; . ' The decline In July was no greater
than in May , but the tone was weaker. Uur-
itiB the Ilrst hour or two of trading the
market , got into a congested state , and the
operators found it almost impossible to do
anything. The sale or purchase of a single
n.OlK ) bushel lot was frequently enough to
turn tlio market down or up f ? Hc , and
I brokers with largo orders at these limits
could do little or nothing. At thin stage the
liii market was loosened up b.v the appearance
in the pit of the brokers representing Duii-
linm &Co. , Milminc , Hodman & Co. , Couii-
nelman & Co. , McCormick & Co. and
Schwartz & IJtipco , with good sized selling
orders , This caused a break in prices , but
it. gave lifo to trade In the pit. This selling
was generally believed to bo of long wheat.
Outside news was a scarce article.
Tlio market cables were dull and not
particularly encouraging1 to tlio bulls. A
private cable emoted American Hour as mi-
Halalile in the English markets , on account
of its poor duality , whllo the board's cable of
imports and United Kingdom homo deliver
ies show u total for the last week of IlM < > , ( ! 00
bushels less than the requirements. Tne
weather Is cold , but snow is falling over : i
large district heretofore In great danger by
reason of its exposed condition. This had ii
boftening tendency on July , and helped to de
press the ether markets. None of the other
Hpecuhitive exchanges contributed any thing
to the commercial news of tlio day.
The corn market opened llrm and active in
the face of TS cars moro received than
indicated by yesterday's ' estimates. Tlio
weather was unfavorable to the hardening
of grain , and consequently to any improve
ment in tlio grading. Tlio foreign' markets
weru quoted linn , with a moderate demand ,
ami buyers for export wore active at ftew
York.und Ualtimoro , and they were likewise
picking up No. 3 and No. ! f yellow corn
for through shipment from hero. There was
Mime quiet talk of Alarcli delivery having
' gotten into strong hands and with a purposu
{ unfriendly to short sellers. The appearances
" from the present outlook favor very low ves
sel freights on the opening of navigation , lo
to HufTnlo being named , and as this would
mean a through. . rate lo New York by lake
and canal of fi Oe , thcro would no money In
lu-cscnt purchases hero and sale in IVow
York on the above basis , which some parties
were said to bo inquiring into to-day
with n view to business. The early
indications of strength were upset by
the weakness in wheat , and toward the close
all the speculative futures were very weak ,
and closed at the lowest figures of the day.
February closed : , ' /o / ; lower to-day than yes-
day , and .May and July ' 40 lower.
O.ita lacked activity , with only a moderate
i volume of trade in the regular market. The
feeling was generally fully steady to lirin ,
with the inquiry extended to Juno , which
was quotable at ( iWt c bolo w Alay , or a wider
difference than recently. May sold at 'Jrifc
and ul J7-yc ! , with next to nothing doing in
tlio near months. The receipts were less
than expected , with only IJO cars contract
grades. reported out of a total of So cars. No.
'J to go to store sold sparingly ut 25c , ruling
slightly llrmer in tone later.
The provision trade followed its usual
courbo. It opened with a moderate display
of strength , but as soon as the trailing
showed any display of lifo the market started
downward , Influenced by tlio Into advices
from the stock yards , where the receipts of
hogs were reported larger than anticipated ,
the bears had no dlfllculty to assume control.
They furnished the few buyers in the pit
with moro property than they wonted , ajidus
n consequence prices suffered a severe break.
From the highest quotations , made early ,
pork sold off a ? ' e , lard lc ) , and short rios
VJKo. Toward the noon hour , however ,
trade recovered u little from the Tlcprcbsion
witnessed , but the Improvement was small ,
nnd the closings , as a rule , were only a trillo
nuovo the insldo prices. Jiascd on yestor-
claj's last figures , the day's actual decline in
pork was ITKc , In lard 7&c , and m bliort
ribs lOc.

on n better basis , but the acceptance of the
new Iowa rates by its managers was the last
straw to break the camel's bark , and the
holders Imvo begun to realize that they must

System Abolished.
The statement sent out in press dispatches
from Chicago , and also chronicled in a local
paper , to tlio effect that the weighing system
in shipping live stock had not been aban

pronounced erroneous. An attache of the

suspended at Omaha , South Omaha , Ne
braska City , I'lattHmoutli , Sioux City and
all points bordering on and tributary to the
Missouri river. Ho also states that under
