and to-day the public seemed to realize that

When the advance commenced the market
was found to lie baio of any offerings. It
had bean said that "the shoiIseio all in , "
but this seems to liavo been a mistake , judg
ing from the clamor thoj made towards tlio
last. The "dtiMddlcra" weio fellouswho
wcic caught in July. They \\erc caught the
worst way , and did some grand and lofty
tumbling. 'Iho running up of the prlco of
July to We was an nstoniwher to the crowd.
The visible supply of corn , with the di
minished I'Mioit movement lust week , and
the increased receipts at the primary
markets for the same time , was expected to
show a heavy Increase , and when 723,000
bushels was announced as the extent of it ,
nn improvement in feeling took place , the
opening lming been rather weak. The re
ceipts to-day were heavy and were expected
to bo again lai go tomorrow. St. Louis re
ceived 1,0lOCl , ( bushels to-day nnd 035 cars
were the estimated receipts for this point
to-morrow. The heavy export clearances
from the Atlantic ports on Saturday was
slightly reassuring , mid the llrm tone of
cable advices from England also helped to
stiffen the market. There was an active de
mand for May ut SBo , but the offerings at
that figure were quite limited. The weather
was unfavorable to the hardening of the
grain , but there npncars to bo no present
lear of any one taking advantage of the
scarcity of No. a. Wheat was a
supporting factor , mid the market
appeared near tlio close to require
help from some quarter , but was fairly
steady In the end. The difference botueon
Saturday's and today's closing iigures mo

Oats were quiet , though in the aggregate

close of last week. The increase in the visi

bushels than at the close of the previous six

In provisions the feeling wns a little
stiongor than the tuulo evidently expected.
Hogs woio in good supply and loner , but the
ndviccs from the stock yards o.vci ted appar
ently but little weight , considerably less
than their usual inlluence. Marring lard ,
which was olTcicd quite freely , the olleiing'i
of prouwit were much smaller than of late.
In pork and short ribs the selling , In fact ,
was conservative , while the demand for both
was falily active , the shoits covering fieely.
The largest Individual buyer of pork was
Jiiilihvin. The lluctuations nil around cov-

thized In a measure , though there was no
great pressure to sell. The specialties con
tinued In their upward course , with Pullman

by the brokers identilled- with Moston parties ,
Oregon Short Line stock was active nnd
strong nnd advanced Z * ( per cent , the buying
coming from the Villard party. Points to

advance of stocks this week. The bulls
argue that the Increased volume of trading
