The suddenness of the tiikhiRoff. reminded him of the day a one- armed attorney slapped Him in the face and knocked him on the floor of n saloon , from which he arose , and brushing the sawdust from his hick , walked ixway in the sullen mood of a crestfallen bully. Here is a man who is supposed to have the interests of his section of tlio city at heart. How well he satisfies that requirement may bo seen in his vindic tive support of Jefferson square which is in tlfc other end of the city , for the city hall. Wo do not want the city hall In our ward , because it would bo only on ono side of town. For the same reason wo do not want it in Jefferson square. Wo want it in a certain location , and no more contr.il site than that on Furnam street could bo so lectcd. Hascall known this , but ho has de liberately sold us out. Ho "has proven a traitor to us , as ho always has when his pri vate animosities conflicted with ourintercsts. But Hascall does not control the views or votes of our people any more than he did when ho wns defeated for the mayo rail ty by 1,700 votes , nnd for the last legislature by u vote which has burled him forever. Since Vlco President Holcomb l sucd his ofllclnl mandate abolishing 'thA ' 'department of general superintendent of the Union Pa cific , much conjecture has bean indulged in in railway circles as to what would bo done for the retiring superintendent , Kdwnrd Dickinson. From good authority informa tion was rcclved this morning that thu vice president will soon issue a circilrtr appoint ing him nsslstant general manager in ch.irgu of the llne-i of the company catt of Clio.v- enno. This Is the position IIQW held by C. S. Mellon. Tlio services of Mr. Mellon , how ever , are not to ba discontinued. It is statin ! that Mr. Dickinson will also make his headquarters .11 this placu. It Is also stated that , on iiivount of Mr. Melton's extensive knowledge of trallle arrangement * , ho has been nrired to nt'i'cpl the position of general trnflle manager and has given the vice president to understand that tlnj i-limigo will moot his approval. The Union Puctll-s and the Chic.igp & Northwestern have entered into an arjrree- inent , whereby solid pissenjrur trains are to ply between Chicago ami Danver over the lines of the two companies. Theses roads will jointly make up trains , tint is eacn com pany will bear half thu oxpon.su. The trains will bo made up nt Cliioigu , und will run through without any ch.ingc in passengers or coaches. This will apply to the vestibule train on and after February IK. The Golden ; Gate special will run to Denver from Oniahn. The overland pas senger trains on the Union Piicilic will lor the present connect with that of the North western at Council HlnlK but will , in the near luture , run solid to Chicago. .The combination vestibule of the Chicago & Northwestern will only run to Denver. It is stated that this transaction was brought about on account of thu Hur- lington having a through vestibule train from Chicago to Omaha. It is rumored that the tie-up with the Northwestern by the Union Pacific will have n tendency to bring the Chicago , Milwaukee & St. Paul , the Hock Island nnd the Wabash into active competition , and thut they may endeavor to throw their trnftic to the Uurllmrton when the western terminus is reached. It is stated that while nil these roads have agreed to the combination it will ultimately result in nn eruption in passenger tralllc. In view of Jtliis combination , nn additional vestibule train will be put on by the Union Pacific and the Northwestern that will run solid between Chicago mid Denver , and will be known as the Denver express. The sad fact that , "Hilly" Moran , clerk of the county board , has lost his mind , became fully apparent to the young man's friends yesterday. Liast evening , "Hilly" called nt Dr , Leo's oflico in the Granite block and , whllo thcro , went on nt u great rate over the girl who has captured his licnit.
