A Failure. The Omaha Bazaar , a fancy goods nnd no tion store , passed Into the hands of creditors yesterday on n chattel mortgage for $2,000 , executed M. Toft , president , nnd C. Toft , manager of the concern , to the United States National bank. A majority of the creditors nro non-rosidonts. M. Toft , the prcsidont , is n clear dealer In this oily and a brother of C. Toft. For the last two or thrco months there have been complaints of men who have been arrested for drunkenness , that they were drugged nnd robbed in Ed Miller's saloon , Twelfth nnd Douglas streets. There has been no conclusive proof of this beyond the testimony of the victims themselves , but yes terday a woman appeared in Chief Scnvey's oflico and gave damaging evidence con cerning these robberies. She swears thnt , about n wcok ago , she was in a wine-room in Ed Miller's saloon , nnd saw a man perfectly sober Htupilied by n single glass of beer. She then t > aw a powerfully built fellow , whom she believe * to bo "Uaby" Barnes scizo the follow nnd hold him while Ed Miller wont through his pockets nnd took from him nil the money ho had. There are sixty miles of sewer , being ten wiles more than that of the preceding year ; there uro also 10'J Hush tanks and 700 catch basins. There have occurred but four stop pages In the Waring system of sewers dur ing the past year. Ono on Eleventh street below the viaduct , being broken by a pile during the construftion of the viaduct ; ex pense of repairing trilling. The second , on Dodge street , was caused by water from the pit of the oublo tramway on Twentieth street ; the cost of repairing was $14S and was paid by the Cable tramway company. The third was in nn alloy north of Charles street , between Seventeenth and Eighteenth and W\s ! easily ilushed out. The fourth was on Davenport , caused by a stick in a man hole and was easily removed. Until Juno 0 the Inspector of sewers inspected nil sewer connection , but since that time the work has been done by the superintendent of plumbing. A bad break was discovered early in June at Tenth and Williams streets , caused by a wash from u private connection , nnd was repaired at a cost of ? 'J30. A six-inch sewer 17. > feet long was laid from the stagnant pond nt Davenport and Twentieth streets , caused by grading , to the main sewer at a cost of $200. 'Iho changed grade of Eighteenth street north of Lcavenworth made it necessary to relay 800 feet of soiv-cr there at a cost of f 190. Five hundred fcot of twelve-inch main sewer at Twelfth and Chicago streets wcro rclaid at a cost of $18(5. During UieyearllS-I boilers were registered ; of this number 283 uro used for manufactur ing purposes , und IX ! for steam heating. There was an increase of 01 now boilers dur ing the year , of which 57 are used for manu facturing purposes , nndiM tor steam heating. Three hundred und twclvo oflicial examina tions of boilers wcro made during the year , 5 wcro found unflt for service , and 20 needing immedi ate repairs. Two hundred and ono engineers , applicants for licenses , were ex amined ; of these 144 were granted licenses 57 were rejected. $1.733 was collected and turned over to the city treasurer. The fol lowing changes were recommended by the inspector : That all boilers used for steam heating by charitable institutions bo exempt from fees ; that owing to the increased amount of work for the Inspector an assist ant bo appointed ; provision for the payment of ono of the board of engineers who is not a city ofliccr.
