A Illlzznn ! Hciiilnliccncc. A group of eotnnioroial tourints , ways the Norfolk Nowa , had gathered around n radiator In the ollluo of the Pact lie liouso Saturday availing , dibuuaslng blizzards in general and the bli/xard of January 12 , 1888 , in particular. Each one had had sonic rumarkablo advcnturo on that horrible night , and some of them had diwplaycd poworH of endurance and tv sagacity in self-preservation that ( . ordered strongly upon the supernat ural. ural.Thoro There was ono pcnslvo-loolcing drum mer in the group who was making his llr t trip in the west. lie said nothing himself , hut seemed greatly interested In the stories of the others. When hiu companions would roach the climax In the recital of their fearful struggle with the elements the pensive drummer would put on a look of the deepest sympathy and would scarcely breath o until the narrator had told his triumph ever the Htorm , when ho would heave a Bigh of relief that seemed to como from the bottoms of his shoot ) . At last every ono but the pensive drummer had related his experience and they all leaned back and looked at the pensive drummer and then at oaoh other , and winked very hard. The pen sive drummer husltated a little and then began timidly : ' 'Gentlemen , you have had sonic startling adventures , and some of you have cortaiMy displayed wonderful powers of endurance. I remember an incident that occurred in a storm a couple of years ago in which a pig figured prominently , I have a friend in Massachusetts mimed Ristraw , who is a farmer. Ristraw was tlio possessor of a line lot of shoats at tlio time [ speak of. There was a heavy snow storm ono night in Dccojnbor and the next morning the host pig in the lot was missing. Ristraw searched high and low for that pip : , but not a sign of it could ho find. Weeks glided into months until summer had given place to autumn and &U11 no trace of the lost pig. Ono day in October Ristrow and the hired man went to haul some hay from the meadow that had boon stacked , the season before that had been stacked for a year , " repented the pensive - sivo drummer , raising his voice to make himself heard above the snores of his companions , "and when they wont for the last load , right there at the bottom of the stack lay tlio missing " "Chostnutl" exclaimed the group in chorus. "As I said , there lay the " "Oh , come off ! ' ' "But " "Go and cork yourself. " "IJut gcntlonion " "Oh , wo know all about it. That's a choice imported story. Brought over in the Mayflower. The pig was not only stout and hearty after his long con finement but had actually gained a hun dred weight. Tell us about George Chorrytrco and his little Washington. " "Gentlemen , I insist that that pier was as dead as Julius Caesar , and to all appearances had boon dead for months , " exclaimed the sad eyed man voho- wctilly. And * ho only sound that brolco the stillness for the next half hour was the barkeeper's query of "What'll you have ? " * * - A Mileage lluolc Doilgo. Ono of the Chicago lines has a ticket on the market which is not only a now dodge , but it utl'octs a cut in the rates. It ia probably this ticket , or BOUIO simi lar cut , which led the See line to make a reduction in passenger rates to the east. The ticket- referred to is a regular coupon pen ticket , and ono issued as good from St. Paul to Chicago , containing the clause : "Ibsuod in exchange for ' 102 miles of mileage book No. . ' * The iiiuno of the man holding the mileage ticket was signed on the contract part of the ticket , but no further signatura is required for iduntillcation. The ticket cost simply the mileage- Chicago , or K8.10 , a cut of 8II.-IO. In ono bonso it is a violation of the in- tor-utato commerce law , in that it fa vors discrimination. It disregards the individuality and purity of the mileage book , the olToot being explained in this vay : Should a poi > on desire to go to Chicago , and apply to a scalper for a ticket , the latter takes a mileage ticket issued by the railroad implicated , tears out 401 ! miles , takes it to the company's tickotolllro and secures one of these ex change tickets. There would bo noth ing particularly sinful about it if the purchaser had been the holder of the loolc and the matter came to an end ( fight there. Hut such is not the idea , In a few minutes the scalper has an other Chicago customer , and ho takes ( mother 402 miles out of the same book , In this way ho is enabled to send four or live men to Chicago on that ono mileage book. As mileage books are intended for the use of ono purson , and that ono the orig inal purchaser , the olToct is easily die- oormblo. A Good One of /rntorultv makes a good suggestion to whom it may coiioorn , us follows : "Aa you have aalcod the boys to use your columns , I troukl suggest that some of thorn gjvc us a letter on how to jvulgo credits , what kind of men to credit and how much credit can a a man have in proportion to his capital. Lot some of the credit men for out houses give us a letter also. " Not n Full llniul. Chicago Medical Standard : Dr. , T. B. Luckie , a prominent railroad surgeon of Birmingham , has an extensive night practice , of whose nature his wlfo is rather suspicious. Ho wrw recently called tea surgical case which kent him out till H a. in. lie explained to his wife that ho had been with a poor rail road man who had lost his right hand. The following night ho was callcd'to a case of "pokor" in a railroad contractor. Boston Commercial Bulletin : In the hall and nailed in a conspicuous plnco was a board upon which was pasted a long and formidable sot of rules that would have terrified any northern vis itor entering Helena for the first time , The following extracts from the rules t here quote from memory , for the pur pose of affording the reader some idea of the exact regulations of the hotel In question us they appeared In print : Kulo I. A traveling correspondent writes : That the average drummer is not par ticularly interested in science is evi denced by the following incident : On the night of January 10 I xyas stopping at a small hotel in a liltlo country town , not more than two hundred miles from Omaha. A game of high-five .vas in progress , and in the midst of it someone ono entered and announced that the moon was partially eclipsed , inviting nil out to see the curious spectacle. "Oh , d n the moon , " was the re sponse from the players , and the game went on. There are quite a number of now men working the western Nebraska trade this year. George Mitchell , of W. A.
