After laying for fifteen days in his room at the Murray hotel battllnir with sicklies ho had contracted months before , Congressman James T. LnUd n few minutes before S o'clock last night left for Hastings. He was accompanied by two friends and Ills faithful nurse. They came down on the elevator nnd walked speedily through the corridor and out on to the w.ilk where they took a wait ing carriage and were driven to the B. & M. depot , where Mr. Laird boarded the train. No one in the crowd of loiterers nnd guests whom he had to pass detected his identity , and consequently ho and his friends were allowed to pass uninterrupted. As soon as the elevator landed Mr. Laird drew his broad brimmed hat well down over his face , turned up his coat collar and partly hid his features by resting his chin on his chest. Oil Inspector specter Jacobson and Mrs. Paul , the latter of Hastings , whoso husband is a warm friend of Mr. Laird , and who makes his home in the Paul family , led the way to the carriage. The departure of Mr. Laird was unex pected , but it was with the consent of Dr. Coffman , who has been attending him since his stay in Omaha , ana who feels quite con- lldcnt of the ultimate recovery of his pa tient. Since he has been under the earn of the doctor Mr. Laird has recovered from his stomach troubles and is now able to retain and digest food. Ills nervous system has also greatly improved , and Inst night ho signed n check In payment of his hotel bill with a linn nnd steady hand.
