The wheat market xvni too nick to hold up Its head , nnd prosports were Kloomy , to blackness. To-dnv's market was stronfj. Vestciilay's shrltikngo ot Si1 was entirely recovered , nnd bull news was as plentiful as It wns source twenty-four hours ago. Husides this , the shorts were eager buyers , nnd there wcro.origiiiiil investments en quite n liberal scale by l.eiitii , hlnti and other local operators of weight and Influence. llutclilnsoii's brokers were sellers on the up turn , apparently puttlni ? out wheat "on Mile. " Some of thu "plunKlng' ' shorts of Miililon notoriety wure driven in on the mlly , and on the whole the market was itlitc | intiM-OHtlng , though tomewhnt narrow nnd largely professional In its charncter. The llr.st tnows of Impaitance came from Sun I'Viinc'Nco , in the shape of n revival of exports In the shipments of grain to Aus tralia. This took the form Inter of telegrams from reliable parties on the coast , that three full cargoes of wheat , Hour and oats had been landed at San Franelscn for shipment to Australia , nnd one cargo of wheat nnd Hour to Callno , South America ; nlso that ne gotiations were under way for further char ters of wheat uiul llour to Australia. Minne apolis was unusually prollllc from u news point of view. Advices from ttiat quarter may be sutnmnmud something like this : 1. That thu demand for rarsto move wheat from the country showed u falling off 01' M ) nor cent , as fur back as last Friday , and that the demand had been getting smaller every day since. 'J. That a bid for 50.COD sacks of Hour had been received within id ! of the market. ! l. That out of ' .MM ) cars of wheat at Miimc- npolK Kti were rejected or chicken feed. t. That , owing to the faulty system of rimming cars , there had been a duplication in the iccoipts , which made the stocks of wheat in Minneapolis nnd the country elcva- tois appear 5,000,000 bushels larger than they really are. fi. That n careful canvass by elevator and milling interests had developed the fact that the reserves in the country were (1,000,000 ( bushels , ntrainst : . ' 0,00 < ) ,000 bushels n year ngn , and that out of (1,000,000 ( bushels , : i,000KX ( ) bushels were of n very low grade. All of tbcsc morsels of news were swallowed without salt , nnd the bulls had an inning that lasted nil day. Private Kuropcan rabies were not encouragine to holders , mid the board's cables quoted generally lower prims. This , however , did not count , except tem porarily. It was a bull day in Chicago. Hull pointers Hew about thick mid fast. Every body had 'cm ' , and they emanated from sev eral of the best anil strongest Mouses. Fuith- trmore , the outside markets sympathized with Chicago to a greater or less extent. Minneapolis , however , the head center of the bull information , was barely hluaily atn very small advance , a circumstaiico which was viewed by some with suspicion. J.atc in the session Wendell .t C'o. , of De troit , wired llenmg , the "Michigan apple liliigthat 100 car loads of best No ! _ red wheat hud been bought to-day in Detroit for imme diate shipment to "the seaboard. Whether this Is for export or not Is not stated. Pre sumably , buyers are afraid of touching doc tored stuff in htoro in New York , so they buy supplies of good wheat in the interior. It was also noted that ! ISKH ( ) bushels were with drawn from store in New York. May wheat opened at $ I.OSIi' , with s.ilos at fl.US'f , , ad vanced to $1.10 'A ' , with only minor set bucks , worked back to tl.O'J , fluctuated for an hour or morn between J1.C9V and fl.lOj. . , and towards the last advanced rapidly to ( I.10 > , and closed utSl.lOi4c3l.lO ( % . The bull feeling governed to the end. December opened at SI Ul'.f , ranged ? l 01lrt@ : 1,0.1 } ; , and closed at SI. Oil1. . January aliened at $1.05. Last prices were at outside all around , and record u gain of 2c on the day. The bright frosty weather prevailing to day was regarded as unfavorable to specu lators on the long side of corn , and in n like degree favorable to sellers for future deliv ery. Thu receipts were over 100 cars under yesterday's estimate , but little comfort wafl taken from ihatciivuinstaneo.seeingthatthey . were still heavy enough for all the demand which existed. Liverpool was weaker , and quotations from thunco lower , but fair quan tities are still reported as being exported from Atlantic ports , and New Orleans again Hgurcd as shipping some , r > " ,000 bushels liuv- . ing been cleared from there yesterday. The weal ; feeling at the opening was succeeded later by greater llnnness , influenced to some extent by the improved tone of the wheat jiiarket , but principally by the active con sumptive demand , and the receipt of a good many outside orders to buy. The decline has been steady now for two weeks , and the im pression is becoming general that prices for the present nro low enough. The amount of business done was not extensive , but after early prices being lower than ever before , the close wus at an improvement of about ' 4C on yesterday's prices. December cloieil utav.o bid , January at ? f > \3 > } 4c , uml May nt ItS&d.H'i'i * . The provision trade exhibited increased strength. The bear element wore more con servative. Holders were relieved some what of the pressure they have recently ex perienced to force thorn to unload , and un der smaller receipts of hogs than was gen erally anticipated. operators , us a rule , were less anxious to sell. The entire market im proved , a stronger condition of affairs ex isted , nnd closings all around were materi ally higher than yesterday's last quotations. The rate from Chicago to the Pacific coast was tlxed arbitrarily at 30 cents less than from New York on lirst class , and at ten cents less on the lowest class , witli corresponding differences on intermedlato classes. The rate from St. Louis w.is llxcd at i'll ' per cent of Chicago rates , and from the Missouri river at IK ) per cent of Chicago. On some of the articles manufactured both at Chicago and the Missouri river , such as pack ing house products , the above arrangements would have been detrimental to Chii-airo , and to protect the e interests at this point rates on those articles were made the sumo from CnicaRO , St. Louis and the Missouri river.
