THE OMAHA DAILY BEE : THURSDAY. NOVEMBER 8. 1888. 3 THE SPECULATIVE MARKETS , Election Talked to the Exclusion of Trade. WHEAT FLUCTUATES WIDELY. Unlit Trndlng In Corn Hut Price * He- main Bteadr-rOatn Bharc In the Universal nulliiCRii-Gcn- crnl Quotntlona. CHICAGO PRODUCE MAUKET. CinrAooNov.7. [ Special Telegram 16 TnK Urn , ] The wheat market was very narrow to day In polntof volume of tradcthough prices fluctuated within n fairly wltle range , the ex treme * being (1.15(31.1t' ( . % for May. The market opened attl.lti'J' for May , advanced quickly to tl.lOJt , ' , sold otT to ( I.lo , back up to 11.10 , where It wavered for awhllo with a ullglit decline , and then advanced to fl.li ( % . The next move was to (1.10 , then to tl.lC ? . There was some trade down to $1 ll > Xi u"d u unarp brt-ak to tl.1i % followed by a rally to tl.Ul * < , and a reaction movement that car ried the price down to fl.lG , where It rested at ISiIK ) p. m. December , In which there was a very light trade , opened at 81.15 , ranged at 1.13X@1,15 and closed at 11.15. Toward the last a sharp rally carried May up to Sl.llijf and after the tap of the bell there were trades on a basis of f 1.17. Outside orders were few in number and un- lniiortant | to-day. Public interest in the election \vas so great as to overshadow everything else , and the consequence was a marked doori-nne in business from all quar tern Speculation on results , general and detailed , took the place of speculation in produce nnd substantial. There was com paratively little wheat for sale on advances and no hurry to buy on breaks. Hutchinson was detected selling wheat on the bulges Rcvcral times , and on each occasion small ircd ( lurries followed , but the reac tions were sharp after cver.v break. Speculative offerings -.vcro not largo at , any stage of the proceedings. For once outside American markets wi-ro quite as llrm as Chicago. , From New York word was received late in the session that seven boat loads of No. i ! red wheat had been worked for export thei-c. The daily record of shipment ! ) of wheat and Hour ( mostly flour ) of Ifl.OJO bushels from Atlantic ports , nnd the working of the No. 2 red was re- irardcd as an important incident , being the first business done in that grade for n , long time. U dhows that tliu views of the Amer ican sellers and foreign buyers are Betting closer together. Trading in corn was light and in significant at the opening of the day'B business , but tlrst quotations allowed considerable Improvement in price , November and December opening about ! c over Monday's closing quotations. More re mote futuics likewise showed a better range and increase In price , January opening ; IMC higher and May moving up sharply to BV } c , while November from ail'8c ' advanced to 40 } c in the ilrst hour nnd in the same time December rose from J Xc at the opening to 3c. Hcceipts , in cluding that by California , about satisfied expectations , with shipments fully up to pre vious f roc outward movement. The murkel ruled strong throughout and was at about its best at the close of the day. Decembei closed at J&Xc.having sold at 40c , and Muv closed at 3Si < c , which was within c of the top and J4X < ; 'BC over the closing prices of Mon day. day.Oats were quiet to-day , and while without e | > ccinl feature , there was n steady to linn feollng njiparcnt with moderate trading in May. That month oiwncd linn , and latet trading was at XfffiJi'c advance , with Novem ber jn'c higher at .M , ! < c. and December quotations - tions llrm. The receipts were fairly liberal , though the proportion of contract grade wa amall. Most of the cash offerings were sold by sample , with k@'fc ' advance indicated In tore lots of No. 2 , which went sparingly al 24Kc. Tb provision trade exhibited a stronp front. In the early portion of the day porh 'was ' depressed by bear movements , but the weakness and decline were only temporary , and oil the reaction that followed prices touched a higher point. The market was controlled by a strong undertone , and , with the exceptions of November lard and short ribs , the closing was higher than on Monday. On | wrk the price established wa fl'J.10)j @ 12.17J . November lard was unchanged but later deliveries closed 2 > Jr > c higher Jannury short ribs also showed an linprovc- tncntof lc. !
