IjiVHt Night In the .Second llniinil.
A fair crowd assembled ut Hunt's opera

pugilistio contest between Jimmio Lindsay ,
of Omuhn , and Hilly Cianston , of South
Otnoha , for the middleweight championship
medal of Nebraska offuied by Hichard 1C.
Fox , ot the Now York Police Gazette.
Lindsay was the holder of tho.mcdal , having
won it in a conflict with Hob Hcnnessy at
Lloyd's opera house one night last winter.

whtlo Hilly Hawlcy was behind Llnusay ,
nnd J. W , Smith und G. H. Stuart were tlie
timers. a
At n quarter to 10 the referee introduced
Lindsay and u moment later Cranston. Time
was then called and the men advanced to the
center of the stage.
After a moment's feinting Lindsay made a
savage lunge at Cranston , only to receive n
hot counter on thujmug. Lindsay , however ,
continued to force the lighting and it was at
once evident that his ferocious onslaughts
wore certain to land him a victor. Another
rush by Lindsay and a litllo harmless in
lighting , and time was called without either
man having received any nmishment.
In the second round Li iJsay went right at
Cranston without any coicmony. and got In
ono good blow on his victualing department.
Cranston retaliated by catching Jimmio a hot
one in the Jaw. This roused all the pugnac
ity in the Omaha mnn ana ho went at Ci ans-
ton like a tiger , forcing him back
against the background scenery , wlicro for a
second or two there was a little short arm
Jabbing , und then , all of a suffden , Lindsay
got in a terrific swinging blow on the point
of Cranstones Jaw , which cleanly , com
pletely , thoroughly knocked him out. It was
a beautiful lick , and the South Omaha
champion went back and to the iloor like a
a man who had been struck witji nn ax. It
was one of the cleanest knockouts over seen
in this section of the country. Cr.uiston was
carried off the stage by his seconds and it
wns fully three minutes before ho sufficiently
recovered to Know \\hero he was. ' i

MARRIED HER UNCLE.

S. R Chronicle : The little tug Ethel

Isting of ladies nnd gentlemen. Little
attention wns p.iid to their movements
: it the time , but when thov returned to

t wns noticed that nil hnnds looked un
commonly happy , nnd the presence of a
clergyman wns remarked. The news
luickly spread ulonp tli2 front that
boniething unusual had happened , nnd
the conclusion wns quickly reached that
the Ethel and Marion had nmdo n
trip outside the heads for the
lurposo of uniting two loving
icarts in the holy bonds ofedlock. .
Jnptain John Vignrn of the tug is n
nodel nud conscientious man , nnd was
otli to give up the secret that was toar-
ng his bosom. Twooverturiiod benches ,
two empty uhatnpngno bottles and frng-
ments of cake gtu.ed up in silent olo-
quonuo to the reporter who stood on the
wharf , nnd , calling the captain's atten
tion to their presence , the old sea dog
smiled nn.l acknowledged the coin. Ho
did not know the parties names , however -
over , and could give no further information
mation save that ho had tnkon them out
to the n i no-fathom buoy , and there the
knot hud boon tied by a Catholic priest
: md sealed with a little hoop of gold. A
gentle swell greeted the parly on the
way out , and the ladies were overcome
and had to bo supported by their male
escorts. The dark face of the bride
paled visibly from emotion , and the trip
was hardly a happy wedding voyage.
When they arrived at the wharf , however -
over , ull this \\as forgotten and the
bridal party landed as happy aa larks.
The contracting parties , whoso nnmo
is Bijani , nro undo and niece. The
uuolo is a moderately well-to-do Portu
guese fnrmor , and tlio parents of the
girl being away from the state , the
niece made his farm her homo. The
undo is about twenty years the senior
of his niece , ward and wife , she being
about eighteen ; but love equalises all
ngcs and Iho fire had entered the uncle's
bronst and was daily consuming him ,
until ho finally braced himself up to
the Until eflort and precipitated himself ,
farm and all , at the maiden's foot. lo
pressed not his suit in vain. The nicco
reciprocated , and an curly day was set
for the marriage. But true love is
not without its trials , iind theirs
looked lilcq a thorny path. Both
were Catholics , and their church pro
hibited such a marriage. This matter
\\as settled bj obtaining u dispensation
through Father Pendergast , vicar gen
eral of the archdiocese of San Fran
cisco. Accompanying the dispensa
tion , however , was a warning that tlio
contracting parties might bo violating
lating the laws of the state
by their union. This was another
setback , and they found that the warn
ing was but too true. For some limo
the pair wore despondent , but a disciple
of Coke was ciilled in and ho straight
ened out the tangled knot by proposing
the romantic wedding on the high boas ,
outside the jurisdiction of any state ; and
so the affair was settled , and the two
cooing doves were mated for life.
