CORN SHARES IN ITS STRENGTH. Oatn More Active null Firmer Pro- vluloiiH NcrvoiiH and IrruKular Cat to Weak and Lower Musi- ness Fairly Active. CHICAGO rnomicE MAIIKET. Cmc do , August 30. ISpcclal Telegram to TUB 13EE.1 September wheat vtent to 1@ 1J4 per cent premium over December to-day. There was u pressure upon December uvcry time the market looked strong , but n disposi tion to let September ulono was strongly manifested. The market seemed narrow- narrower than it really was by reason of the fact that there has been tremendous trading In It during the last week or two , but In reality general outsldo business was on a pretty liberal scale In the aggregate. Little orders on the buying side kept coming in all day and u great deal of wheat was absorbed In that wny during the session. The public has not gone wild yet over wheat , but it has more or less confidence in higher prlrcs and Is taking hold quietly. This , taken In consideration with the additional fact that foreigners have shifted their position In American specu lative markets until they arc 2,000,000 to ! ! r > , ( XX,000 ) bushels long Instead of that much short , may account In part for fie inability of professional and heavy weight- operators to force an Important reaction , try the'y ever so hard. The opening price was 02c for September and December. The range was 92 % 'JlJ e for September and 02X@03lG } for December. The lighting jioint was OJo for December. At and above that point thcro wore oceiiiis of wheat for sale and rallies from 02 } e were shared. More wheat was traded lu between 02(393 ( } < u than the outside - side of these extremes. September closed decidedly higher than yesterday and Decem ber about the sumo as yesterday. Hutchln- son seemed to bo buying all the September ho could get his hands on. The corn market was quiet early , and though first sales were at a slight advance over last night's close , it weakened some in the absence of of buyers and sold from 452 c to 45o for September. The subsequent ex citement lu September wheat soon developed more Interest lu corn and tinned prices some , and when a largo operator sent his brokers into the market to buy , there was n steady upward movement. September sold to 45c , cased off some and for u considerable time ranged at 45jtf(345Kc ( , finally broke to 4r > tfc. closing at that. At the close September and October were about KC to tf c higher than last night. Long futures wcro easier , QUO chiefly to higher temperature , in the corn bolt , and an encouraging outlook for tbo growing crop. Oats were more active and firmer with some advance on cash and Au gust. Arrivals wcro not largo and Included but 82 cars of contract grade , while the esti mated total for to-morrow was but 187 cars. A good demand existed for seller the month , also for cash oats to make up , r > ,000 bushel lots for delivery , hence the month sold up u full cent early in the session , to 20c. and May was In fair demand and firmer while in termediate months were in some favor ut slightly better figures. No. 2 cash in store or to go there sold nt 25tf ( & 25XC , the outside being at J c advance. The provision trade was nervous and irreg ular in Its movement and more or less excited ana the yellow fever reports published in the morning newspapers created almost a panic at the opening. For September delivery the first sales made showed u decline from yes terday's closing of 15n on pork , and 17J o on lurd and stiort ribs. Heforo any reaction oc curred pork dropped fully 25c , and short ribs 1"X ° from opening prices. Lurd , however , ruled firmer at the extreme inside figures. Hutchlnson & Cudahy bought pork freely for September , and with the assistance of the shorts , who considered it u good time to cover , the entire market moved up rapidly. From the lowest point pork advanced steadily 45c , lard 7c and short ribs 22Xc. CHICAGO L.IVE STOCK. CHICAGO , August 80. [ Special Telegram to THB BSE. I CATTLE Receipts to-day wcro liberal , and for the week were nearly as heavy as lost. The market for ordinary beef cattle was dull , weak and lower. Bids wcro 10@15c lower , and many sales of com mon to fair cattle wcro made that way , prices for them being about 20@25c lower than Tuesday. Strictly choice com fed cut tle were not very plentiful nnd bold at steady prices. New York shippers had slxty-ono cars of cattle loft from yesterday waiting for the cars.
