Money continues easy , und tlio supply U
equal In tlio demand , all wants bulng
promptly met at thoj usual rates , S@ 10 per
cent. Country bnnks are beginning to call
for currency , needed In moving the heavy
crops now nenrlng maturity. The crop out
look continues very favorable and unless
frost cuts in between now and September 15 ,
the Btntu will be In a very piospcrous condi
tion indeed at thu close of tlio Near. Prices
for nil products indigenous to Nebraska aiu
high us comp ired with recent v ears , and nd-
vices in regard to crops in Huropo are tic-
cidedl.v unfavorable , so that there seems
to bu no doubt but what thu surplus
of this slate will bo largo ,
und in demand at very remunerative ilgurcs
General trade Isery good for tlio season.
Collections are not at all unsatisfactory , and
when hat vest is made the financial aspect
Will doubtless Improve and mutters in that
line slmpo themselves very comfortably.
The pi oiluco markets havu been well sup
plied with fruits anil vegetables from homo
markets and from California and the south ,
and pi ILCS have 1 eon quite reasonable. Teas
are selling somewhat low unit there is no
great disposition to buy. Cable advices are
firmer in tone , however , and telegrams from
Japan repoi t the markets theio stronger.
The cable advices indicate that the slit mkngo
in the crop will bo greater than was at first
reported.
Sugars are steady and In fair demand , and
It is not thought that prices will go lower
for the present.
Coffee is In fair general demand , and Java ,
which is In light supply , is selling more freely.
Bnu.il colfco is unchanged. The following
table shows the stocks of lira/11 coffee in
first hands at the seaboaid and alloat for our

rirst official quotations were S9)tfo for Sep

very little trading In December around the
opening above UlHt&Dl c , which was teally
the market. The excitement right nt the
opening was very great almost as much seas
as jostonlay. For the llrst time. In u week
cables canio In rather tame , though , and
there was an Indication of a serious set back.
Then crop reports are somewhat better than
the radicals have been trying to make them
selves believe was the c i o. Wheat In the
northwest has not been entirely dcstrojcd , us
somoof the people on 'change have bc'ou led
to imagine by their speculative advisers.
On the whole tha bull spirit was cooled
down to some extent. Outside buying Is
more general now thnn it has been ut any
time. It was the suppoit from that quarter
that made Cudahy and some other local
opoiators of Importance and weight
think they had run against a stone wall
when they undertook to hammer the market
to pieces this morning. There was a sur
prising small amount of wheat for sale con
sideringly the sovei lly and abruptness of the
bleak. After some little hesitation the mar
ket advanced Vj@1iu and seemed Hi mat the
recovery. The piineipal piossuro was on
December , for which delivery Hutchinson
was u Irco seller , us ho has been at Intervals
for a week. Ho was a big buj or for Septom
bcr , however , and his operations served to
still further narrow the difference between
September and December from 2cat the open
ing to 1'ifo. Chicago No. 2 spring is clearly
In high favor with men who are not afraid to
como into contact with actual grain. Nearly
l.OOO.OOJ bushels have been shipped out this
week , tuo clearances for jostorduy ulono
footing up ! lbl,000 bushels. At sundown the
stock of No. iispiing in the tegular ware
houses here was not much , if any , above
3,000,000 bushels. This will show a reduction
in total stocks of about 750,000 bushels since
last Saturdaj. The strength of the cash
market and near-by options has revived the
gossip on the subject of a deal , though
there is nothing In the situation
to justify such apprehension beyond
the fact that Hulchlnson is a largo
owner of cash wheat and holds contracts
for many millions more for September de
livery , against which ho Is supposed to have
sold extensively for December. This might
mean a good deal with anybody else. It
may mean something with Hutchinson , and
that operator is giving out m.v slerinns tips
about the immense value that yet in iv at

theho violent churnings weio not satisfactory
or conclusive. The market was In a st ito of

reasonable and iiniensoniitg lluctuations
most of the session. It was alternately very
strong and uucoitalnly weak , but on every
bulge , Horn 10 o'clock ' on , it was notic-ccl that

now in eider NuxviYork and most of the
larger mat kots worn clearly of the same
opinion , and for the Hist time In lour
days the boars ventured to pi earn t some
thing like an oigamzul iiont. They seemed
to feel that thoyflncn moie had a lighting
show. The closing range was not many 10-

AVonkcr A Dull Week In Stocks
Increased Trailing in the
Produce Market.
Tlio Money Market.
CincMao , August 25. [ Special Telegram to
Tn Urn.l The chief changes in the mono
tury situation duilng the week have been the
increased demand by parties \\lio are piepar-
ing for enlarged full business and requite
funds with which to carry their plans into
execution , and un enlarged use for money
with which to handle u inter wheat that is
now niriving freely at points to uhlch Chicago
cage furnishes liberal advances when wheat
begins to accumulate in their elevators. Hut
as jet calls for the purposes named have not
seriously i educed the loanable balances of
banks , and \\hile there Is | > osslbly a ilrmer
fooling us regards rates , no changes can bo
recorded in the figures paid for uccommodu-
tlons. Cholco names and collaterals readily
obtain money at 5 " > } per cent , where
largo amounts arc wanted , and prime
to Just fair paper posses ut tiQs per cent ,
Oj ciu * per cent being the customary llgures
lor good business signatures. There seems
to bo an opinion that an unusually largo
amount of monej will soon bo required In the
inlet lor to assist the movement of crops
Such conclusions are not justllled by actual
conditions , i. o. , the wheat crop , \\ludi
usually absorbs the largest percentage of
mouoj employed in the Interior during the
closing weeks of the summer and autumn
months , Is apparently much below an aver
ngo , hence less funds will bo i enquired for
that purpose than usual. The corn ciop will ,
not under any condition , move with any dc-
gieo of freedom during thu next three
mouths. Not is there anything in the bust-
ness outlook to Justify the conclusion that
the absorption of money In other business
channels will be about the customary autumn
two race.
With those facts in sight there seems to bo
no reason for supi > osing that money \\111 not
bo cosily obtained at reasonable rates by
thosowho have good paper collaterals to
olter for it. The increasing movement of
wheat has compelled bankers In the west ,
southwest and southeast to draw down their
eastern balances for the purpose of using
their moDoy at homo , hence the supply of
exchange on Now Yoik offoied from such
sellers has been sufficiently largo to reduce
the discount to bO cents per $1,000 between
banks. These lluures render it as advantage
ous to Dung funds from the cast by express
us to sell bills , aud liberal amounts of money
have been brought hero fiom
Now York the current week.
Foreign exchange was weaker during
the greater part of the week , owing to lingo
offerings of bills , induced by fieo purchases
of railroad slocks und land by foreigners.

The New York stock market has been devoid
void of sensational features the past week ,
und taking it as a whole , was narrower , but
trading \\as on u somewhat increased scale.
The public , which is always so cssonlial to a
likely market , do not take hold with the
freedom that commission mon would like to
see but , nevertheless , theie is a fair number
of outsiders in the maiket considering the
unsellled conditions that are at present gov
erning it. The future course of pncesdepends
upon crops. If they are good the roads will
have plentv of business Should they lurn
out moio disappointing than ut prosont.thoro
will bo many dissatisfied spoiulators , as they
have placed their hopes of higher prices in
good ci ops. London operated on a liberal
Healp on both sides of the market , and ono
house , having extensive foreign connoctiotiH ,
called in 10,000 shares of St Paul from the
street to ship lo London. 1'iofebslonal spec
ulators , who have run the nmrKet for some
time past , weio moro inclined to go slow and
lot the maikpttako itsown course. ( Jrangors ,
especially St. 1'aui , atlincled considerable
attention. A largo "short" interest
existed in the latter , at ono tn.io it being es
timated nt 75,000 shares , and the price was
bid up to force them to cover , and a good
inunv weio duven in. ( iould stocks. North
ern Pacitlo , the Orcgons and the Coalers
came In for n creed degieo of attention and
prices weio moiked up. The oainlnifsof
the pi incipal roads for tlio second week in
August that have thus far been reported
make a fair showing , bill the gains for the
mo-rt part were small. I'ho aggiogato sales
on Ihe New York Stock exchange for the
week we 10 1)51,500 ) shares.
Speculative trading during the past week
was of larger volume , particulaily in wheat ,
which advanced sharply , attracted the most
attention and ilievv ti.idmg fiom other
articles , and although at times there appeared
to bo litllo animation , there was suftloient nt
others to more than offset the quiet period.
The outside public have more confidence in
wheat than in any other coieal and are moro
disposed to buy It conservatively. Foreign
ers , also , have traded moro iieely In this
market than for some time past. IJut
they have learned to make quick turns ,
and by so doing secuted good
profits The receipts at all the leading points
are inci easing slightly , but the quality shows
but litllo immovemcnt. Kxport ordois woio
moio numerous and the outward movement
shows an increase. Crop advices are rather
conlllcling , but fiom Ihe numerous reixirts
from the northwest , telling about the soveio
damage being done , there Is undoubtedly
some truth in Ihc statement rcporlcd , and the
Indications are that the quality has detc"-
loiuled considerably. HcporU fiom abroad
are rather worse and the outlook Is moro
favorable for higher prices for vv heat than a
week or so ago. The quality of now oats
coining in remains unsatisfactory , the nor-
ccntiigo of contract grades being very low.
A moie coiitiaent feeling was noted m pro
visions and puces langcd higher. The ar
rivals of hoggcoutinuo buiull , und best grades
readily commanded higher pi ices. The news
from the south regarding yellow fever wai
not at all alnrmlni : and the "shoits" became
nervous and covered quilo freely. Outslilt
orders were also moro liberal , and betlct
speculative business transpired. Shippers
took hold of meats and lard with Increased
liberality und the outward movement show
a good increase over the preceding week am
the stock of all the principal cuts of meal1
weio reduced. A heavy reduction was als <
niulo ; in lard.
