Wheat had a strong opening at u prlco

Liverpool cables reported better weather and
an easier feeling but London , Antwerp and
Paris continue ! to wlro bullish market news.
1'ho local sentiment again turned bullish and
the market ruled strong from start to llnlsli.
Iho times wore few \vhen It was not easier
to sell than to buy wheat In the pit. The
bulls have about made up their minds that
Iho north > vcst is not going to produce such a
roiirlni * great crop ; that the total production
Df spring and winter Is not , utter all , going
to exceed 400,000,000 bushels ; that the
European coop will bo 100OCOOCO bushels
ihort at least , and that Europe will want
CO.tOO.COO . to 75,000,000 bushels more from
America than America will have to spare.
These points are strong ones , and behind
them the bulls feel that they arc well fortl
fled. The quick-turning scalpers wcro as
rampant bulls to-day as they were bears yes
terday , but several times to day they tried
Iho experiment of "feeling for the top. " They
found it now and then and there were occa
sional sharp reactions , ono of Ic , but In the
main the straight-going bulls had the most
satisfactory day of It. I'o begin with , the
failure of any wheat to bo delivered on
August contracts was a disappointment to
the bears. It is still locked up nnd llnnly
held at an advance ofl } @ 2o over yester
day's prices. It Is not kept off the market ,
however , for Hately llros. ' provision house
bought ltiJ,000 , bushels of No. a spring at S4c.
Tbts is an unusual circumstance , its Hately
Bros , have not recently done much In grain.
News from the northwest is conflicting , but
modilled estimates of production seem to be
warranted by the latest advices. Taken all
in all , bulls had ttio call to-day In everything.

The close for August was within c of the
top , deferred deliveries showing } c reac
tion from the top. There was heavy realiz
ing by some of the local "high rollers , " tind
It was generally believed that Geddcs sold a
considerable line of wheat , bought for sev
eral cents lower , for foreign account. The
gam on the day is l } @l > sC.
Corn established n gam of l di c , and
closed at the outside. Dealings were on a
largo scale , and the temper of the market
was unqualifiedly strong. The shorts acted
very much ns though they realized that they
had overdone the thing selling next year's
crop for this year's delivery. The feature of
the market was the covering of short corn.
Oats were higher and more active than on
either previous day this wculc. Buyers ap
peared early In the speculative market ,
which opened at a fractional advance on all
futures , and ruled strong. August was
again the favorite month , Improving about
Xc. The strength was largely following the
lead In corn and wheat , with the belief on
the part of many that at present prices oats
nro cheat ) . Cash lots wcro in fair request ,
with light tradings.
Provisions continue to lean to the bull
side. Receipts of hogs are still disappoint
ingly small. The cull for cash products show
no particular abatement , and on investment
account the demand is now better than nt
any tlmo since the advance movement com
menced. The bear party Inu lost its inllu-
cnoo for the present , and so far as its condi
tion Is concerned , trade Is certainly nil hold
ers could dcslro. General trading was again
active with short ribs and pork rather lend
ing in interest. Lard , though slower than
other speculative lines , was quite strong ,
closing the sumo as yesterday to % ° higher.
In short ribs the advance established was
2Ui5c. ( Pork was the strongest article on
the list and closed at an appreciation of 2D@
25c. Comoaratlvaly fair sales of lard and
moats were made for cash delivery. Sep
tember was the pivotal month In the future
trading. It ranged for pork from $14.K ( up
to 14.l)5 ) ; for lard , from * 8.07 up to * 9.05 ,
and for short ribs , from 53.50 up to IS.CO.

were 9,500. Trade continues slow nnd un
satisfactory In all branches. The run of
prime , corn fed stock is light , yet there is no
great demand for such , and the few loads
from day to day seem to satisfy the wants of
trade. At least such was the case to-day
nnd for the week so far. There wore moro
BCCOIH ! class natives on sale than were
wanted unless nt very low figures , bids beIng -
Ing 1015c lower than yesterday. The run
of Texans keeps up to high watermark , there
being in slgut again this morning at the vari
ous markets some I'J.OOO to 13,000 , and about
this number has been In sight each d.iy this
week so far. This alone vividly explains
Why low grade and common natives are sell-
Ing'so slow and at such low prices. Texans
are now down to near the lowest prices of
last year , when they sold for almost
the lowest on record , quality considered.
Good Texans nro always preferred to the
average run of nutivo grassers , at the price
of the day. Native cows and bulls are lower
than last week and slow at the decline , and
such will bo the rule until there is a lot up In
the run of Toxans. The stoe'.ccr and feeder
trade remains unchanged in cither volume ,

The market was very dull and quiet. A
few cows changed hands and that was about
all. There were a fowloads of good corn-fed
cattle but they were held pretty high and
were not sold. The market was about steady.

The market was slow on heavy hogs nnd
B(310o ( lower , although two choice loads
went tit iO.45. The light hog niuiket opened
about steady and closed 5c lower. Light
hogs wcro In better demand and llcht mixed
loads sold more readily than straight heavy
weights. The pens were cleared before the
close.
