r THE OMAHA DAILY BEE : SATURDAY. JULY 14 188& THE SPECULATIVE MARKETS , Board In Full Control of the Wheat Pit CORN ALSO RULES VERY WEAK. Onls Fairly Stonily The I'rovlslon Trade Without Special Feature JI ( K nml Cattle Hllll Quite Ac tive General Quotations. CHICAGO IMIODUCK MAIIKET. Cmctno , July 13. [ Special Telegram to TUB Hir..l : If Mr. Hutchison's line or wheat had been 15,000,000 bushels instead of 3fiOOOJO , bushels , which Is now said to bo the maximum amount he has held since ho tuft the bear sldo of wheat , and ho had dumped the whole 1(5,000,000 ( at once nnd 1 > ounced It down the tnronts of buyers with another 15- 000,000 bushels , the market could not feel worse or net sicker. Kverj'body within reach of telegraph or postal lines has been wired or written In the last fort.v-el'ht ( , hours that Itutehinson was hurt and that his wheat was being sold out , or that It was liable to roino out , nnd every man with a dollar's worth of interest In Urn market , sijuaroil him self accordingly. Ills fall and the probable disposition of his holdings encouraged short ficllniK and made the IOIIKS inclined to lighten their Iouh. : The result Is seen in the de pressed condition of the speculative markets. The tone of the market nnd weather cables was bearish. The speculative energy on the bull side seems to bo at ? cro at tills 'moment , however , and the bears are uncommonly aijRrcssivc. The room sentiment Is certainly strongly bearish and tlio market to-day was not well supported. The opening range was & t8C under yesterday's close , and opening prices were the best of the day. The close was very nearly at the Inside , and the average was ! fc'Sc umlerycHtenlay's final range. A small trade was done In July at a premium of l ? (3U ( e over August. The latter molith tiold us low as T'JJge , and December was atone ono llmo quoted at 81K ° - None of the other domestic markets wore as weak as Chicago and none of them have experienced as exten sive shrinkage. Chicago has been the cen ter of depression. Corn , Hko wheat , was very weak , anO closed % @lj < e lower than yesterday. There was a pretty free liquidation for country no- count by commission merchants , and on the other hand there was a general covering ol short corn put out at higher pi-ices. Hut for the extensive covering prices would probably have gone considerably lower. Ono strong feature is found in the fact that cash corn is on a level with the succeeding two months , August and September. Tlio three months eloscd less than ) < c apart. The volume of business transacted was very large , and was more in the nature of "evening up" than has been noticed for some time. Oats wcro remarkably steady , taking Into consideration the fact that the leading cereals ruled weaker , together with the fair weather conditions for the new crop. During the early hours of the session little business was done in a speculative way , but toward the close considerable activity was displayed with u fair inquiry for near fu- tureo , while deferred deliveries wcro more quiet , July opened tit nearly yesterday's latent bid , with moderate trading at Hie , and Bold down to yo5fc , at which llgurcs there were fair transactions. Provisions opened wiuh a bullish tendency Inllucncod by a lighter run of hogs than was generally expected. Traders took a more continent view of the market and as initial sales woio followed by a good short buyinir , higher prices prevailed. As soon as the mom uigent buyers supplied their wants , liotyovcr , iiiut the demand subsided , tlio im provement gained was short lived. To rcullzo sellers found it necessary to crowd the market and the product receded until lard closed the same as yesterday to " } c higher and short ribs unchanged to SJ c lower , i'ork closed unchanged for July and Be higher for August and September , liar- ring the buying to cover shorts and the uiodcsato purchasing of pork and short ribs by leading puckers , the day's trading was featureless. In pork the nnctuation expe rienced covered u range of 17) @J3o , in lard @ /-n'e > and in short ribs So. CHICAGO iaVE STOCK. CIIIOAOO , July 18. [ Special Telegram to THE UEB.I CATTI.B Hccoipts , 0,000. Uusi- ncss was again brisk and prices were again advanced 10@13 < ; , making an up turn for the week of about L'S&iiijo. Kail freights on cattle - tlo and dressed beef nro down to the lowest on record and this mainly accounts for the advance of Wednesday and Thursday as the supply , especially of native cattle , is greater than last week , and the incre.tbo over hist week Is 10,000 head , BO it will bo seen there is no shortage and the advance is not on account of the shortage or an improvement in the ordinary demand. To low rates to the eastern and seaboard markets may bo at tributed the advance to-day and yesterday. Should there bo a sudden cessation of the dlfllcultlcs between tlio railroads , fat cattle would drop 2o30o pern 100 and ship pers should bo.ir this in mind , Toxaim were scarce and again quote.l higher , making an advance of iBSIO'j ( for the week. Common natives and native butch ers' stock except canners share in the gen eral upturn , but not to the RUIIIO extent in fat natives or good Texans. Old canning cows are about as low as nt any time. There is more life In the stacker and feeder trade , with substantial upturn in prices. Veal calves are : .V@.10o per 100 higher than last week. Quotations were as follows : Choice to extra beeves.
