Onls Dull nml Willinut Intercut-No Special Interest In Provisions Knlr Trading In Cnttlo and Hogs Quotations. CHICAGO IMtODUCn MAHKKT. CIIICAOO. July 3. [ Special Telegram to TUB Ur.n.1 Instead of 3,000,000 bushels of wheat which the bears were expecting would bo delivered on July contracts this morning , only about 300,000 bushels went round. Con sidering that with July wheat nt } tfiX < 3 dis count under August , nnd therefore full car rying charges were not to bo obtained , these light deliveries wcro a surprise. A theory was Immediately issued to fit the case , nnd Its purport was that the July shorts wcro to bo suce7cd. | Accordingly within five min utes nftcr the opening July wheat sold up even with August and thereafter fell only J o below that delivery throughout the session. Moreover , small deliveries had tlio effect of firming thu market generally , and apparently would have resulted In n good advance but for U > p suspicion that big deliveries were yet to coino. With this drawback and n very light traJo August wheat closed to-day only Jfc higher than Satur day. There wcro still other bullish Influences. Spot wheat was quoted J < Jd higher in Liver pool and private cables wcro llrmcr , chielly oa account of bad , wet weather abroad and Indications pointing to n harvest two weeks late In Great Britain. The Now York mar ket was % e higher , nnd the same conditions existed ns here. Deliveries on July con tracts , which were expected to be very large , were nmall. St. Louis showed no advance , and from that city came reports of several car loads of now wheat received there from Kansas which was in line condition and berry , but graded No. 3 red. Tlio visible supply statement was bullish enough , but It failed to do anything further than prevent a decline from opening prices. Tlio decrease was 983,000 bushels when but 000,000 bushels had been expected. There were twelve boat loads of wheat reported taken for export In New York to-day aud thirty loads Saturday , but clearances wcro small nnd receipts in the northwest very large again. This was about the only bear ish Influence aside from the line , dry weather foi the homo harvest. Nevoithclcss the ndvanco in prices was Insignitlcant. One good reason was an absence of outside orders nnd tlio fivct that many homo traders are out taking a vacation until July 4 Hutchinson W t u seller of wheat , not to any such cx- \C t us on recent days but enough to hold tlio market down ncalnst bull scalpers. Hlooin VHH buying. August wheat opened nt 7'J1 ' e , 11 nettmVeil between that price and 71l ? < c fern n while , then between 7'.l o and Tll c , fell to 'iWi&Wu , advanced to 71l fo fell to 7UVc. nnd closed at 7lH < e. December whcatopcncd nt b23H'e , sold to b2 < c und 82c and closed at The delivery of corn on July contracts were very largo about V > 00,0 ( > 0 bushels. Floss , Strong & Co. delivered the most of it and it was taken by Hutchlnson , Uovdcn & Co. , Nor ton & Worthington , nnd H. J. Coon Strange to say , the iirstefTectof these large deliveries was to advance the speculative market. The theory was that the grain being delivered out by the bull clique , who had been HO un successful in their operations , and taken by shippers , it would soon move out and relieve this market of the accumulations which have burdened it. At thu advance , however , Hutchinson wni n free seller and there was n reaction to opening prices , followed by an other advance , which was maintained. Au gust corn opened at 4b > &c , sold up immedi ately to 4 c , then down to 4S@48Xc , up to nnd closing nt 4S'1HfllSJ ( ! jC. September corn opened at 4&c , t > oid up to 4llVc , down to 4 M@18.c , up to and closing at 4S.JfiH'c. ; ( ' The speculative oats market was dull and featureless. Fluctuations wcro small and infrequent. July oats opened at 80)fc , sold up to and closed at 30)4 c. August oats sold down fioin 2. " > c to 25J c. September oats from 25 } to25\c. October oats from 2"iJi'c to 2. > > } 0 , closing at 25c , and year oats at 25o und 25jjc , closing at the last named price. In provisions the month opened without occasioning any great stir. Considerable business was transacted in the way of "ev ening up" traJes , but there was no increase outside1 , and now trade was limited. Deliv eries on July contracts wcro light of poik nnd lard , and quite heavy of short ribs. Prices were very steady , and without radical change. Pork closed at Saturday's figures ; lard unchanged to 2J c easier , nnd short ribs unchanged to "yo higher. The cash product was n little more active. CHICAGO liIVK STOCK. CuiCAno , July 1. All this indicates u conservative tone pre vailing in the minds of Investors and this feeling will probably continue till after the adjournment of congress and until the people ple at the November elections vote on the tariff bill , as there seems to bo but little prospcctof the scnito taking definite action till the voters decide whether It Is to bo U'gh ' protection or moderate tariff. General trade Is very good , but the approach of hot weather in earnest presages the usual season of midsummer dullness.
