r gHE OMAHA DAILY BEE : WEDNESDAY , JUNE 13. 188a 3 TOE SPECULATIVE MARKETS Wheat Breaks Badly But Recovers Toward the Close. KING CORN ON HIS LEGS AGAIN. A Vn ) II UK OT In the Enormous lie- cclpts Ontn 8troMjcr Provis ions Weaker Cuttlo Fnlrly Active HOKH Hnlc Hrlsk. CHICAGO PllODUCK MAUKKT. CniCAno , Juno 12.Special [ Tclcgrnm to Tun HF.K.1 If tlio great majority of the smaller wheat bulls had not unanimously nnd nt the snmo time arrived nt the conclu- Blon tlmt they must get rid of their wheat there would probably Imvc been nobrcnk of n cent In the prlco the first thing this morning. Ilml they taken fright singly , by pairs , or oven by triplets , the market might have nuRorbed their offerings , but when they nil c.iiiiQ together even Intending purchasers were rjulto willing to ftco to what point their unloading nnd stop orders would carry the market. The theory that the sacrifice was unnecessary Was suggested by the fact that nlmost all of the dccllno was recovered bo- forc the close of the morning session. Indeed , in all except the nearest deliveries the close was from } { to J o higher than the opening. There was just ono bearish influence from the outside to indnco this letting go of holdings , but It must bo confessed that It was very bearish Indeed. It wai an early cable , which quoted wheat in Liverpool Jtf d lower with futures tending downward. ' Pet haps this started the outpour of long wheat or perhaps it was Bomo searo If ft over from yesterday's break. At any rate long wheat came. Hutchinson was hclnlng It along with largo offerings and Stuuffer was selling .luly , which gave rlso to the rumor that ( Judahy was selling out. However , It was noticed that another Cudahy broker was briskly buying August and De cember. Jones , Kotinett & Hopkins bought largely of August and licum & Hutchinson were said to bo cornering short whcal. Thereupon prices advanced again. The inci dent of the day was the change in the relative potions of July and August. At the opening July wheat Bold for } ic tnoro than August , but at the close lor } { c loss. This is coming nearer the natural state of things , and is re garded as healthy. The strongest legitimate encouragement for wheat holders was to bo found In the grain movement table. He- ccipts at primary markets showed n largo falling on" , and exports a handsome increase. The clearances of wheat from Now York we're 27,000 bUHhcls more than the aggregate receipts at the nine principal primary mar kets. It reminded the bulls that they were talking higher Vnccsjor wheat long before the crop damage was heard of , and simply oa the pro ] > osltlon that the consumption had nearly caught up with the production as evi denced by the small visible supply and the small reserves in farmers' hands. July wheat opened at 31c , sold directly at S4l c , then declined to S3 ; ' c , advanced to S-l'tfo ' ngaln and closed at 1 o'clock at SljcjV. August wheat opened at S4) < c , sold down to t > 3 c , up to S4 } e , and closed at 84Xg84Xc. ( December wheat opened at 85 c , sold down to S4Xc , up to 80 , ' c , and closed at Slie. At last the cfirn market is releivcd some what from the heavy burden of enormous receipts , and shows the directs of it by springingup with much elasticity. It seems to show that there , waa no other reason for the dccllno than local receipts at this point. The bulls showed more courage to-day , and had only to indicate u disposition to sustain the market to frighten the shorts into cover ing , and they readily put the market up themselves. To add to their conlUlonco the estimates for to-morrow show u further decline - cline in receipts , and railroad men are re ported us saying that deliveries of corn at country points show a decided decrease. July corn'opeiipd at 52c , which was 9 c bet ter than last night's close , sold at 5JVci then to Sljfe , then advanced to 52c , fell to G2Jf @ 52 < e , anil closed at 1 o'clock at.r > 2@r > 23fc. September corn opened at Mfo ( , sold down to 5'JXc , up to KJJfc , and closed at 53Vfc bid. The speculative oats market , under the stimulating influence of lighter receipts ex pected and of an advance in cornshowcd sonic improvement , but the volume of trade was only moderate- and thofo was no special feature to the mariict. July oats opened nt 32 ' < c. sola at 32c , then up to nnd closing at 32 > $ c. September oats opened at 27j c , sold at 27c , then up to and closing at 27jfc. The provision trade was a liltlo weaker in its tone. Short ribs and lard were held nuito firmly , but in pork an early break of 15@17J < fc was suffered under the unloading of a moderate amount of long property. Later , however , pork recovered a good share of this depression , and at 1 o'clock was only 2) ) < ( g5o under last night's closing.
