THE OMAEA DAILY BEE : TUESDAY , 12 , 188a TRYING TO PATCH UP PEACE , The Burlington People In a Ooncll- latory Mood. WILLING TO MAKE CONCESSIONS. A Suspected Illinois " \Vlfo i'olsoncr Arrcptctl A. No\y Corporation Closing Hxcrclfjcii at tlio 8 into University. LINCOLN Unman or THE OMAHA BKB , ) 1020 1 > BTIIKRT , V LINCOLN , Juno It. ) TUo UurlingUm road Is evidently trying to patch a pleeo with the Lincoln wholesalers , and with that end la view President Parkins ww m the city Saturday last in consultation ivitli sonio of them. After the Jobbers have mndo a long light in which Jho business people ot the city have lent moro tium willing assistance , the road ovldontly proposes n coiijpromlao In which it will glvo concessions to soiiio and rob others to mnko up for it , and Uieii demand a cessation of hostilities. The principal part of the uicinbcrshin of the board of trade Is not made up of men who for personal concessions would surrender the fight outiro and Icavo others to rciniilu with out relief at their expense , consequently it Is safe to say that the light In not oft nnd will not bo , and that the schemes of Mr , Perkins to placate two or thrco wholesalers at the expense - penso of the remainder of the city will not bo tolerated. If the road has opened its oycs to the Injustice It has done this place and the cltizcnnof the entire- state as well , the board of trade will thankfully rccolvo the portion of the just dues the road may glvo and con tinue at work to get Justice for all In other things as well as the few whom the road seem desirous to placate. The effort of the road to got the fight on rates declared oft will not succeed and thu per sonal solicitations of John It. Clark , nt nil times 11 hacker mul tool pf the Bur lington road , to linvo the pcoplo of Lincoln Ho down and surrender will not bo agreed to. There Is already u dawn of emancipa tion for Lincoln from the long ownership and dictation of the Burlington , and It Is moving hand In hand with u dawn for the entire state from the outrageous charges nnd discriminations that h vo existed for ycats. In the light of tlicso events the members of the board of trndo who have fought the tight will not again subject themselves to tha euro and custody of rullrouds even under the specious picas ad- Vunccd'that no now roads will bo oullt if luoy do not. Lincoln has grown to a city and It will not again retrograde to n dependency - pendency on the charities of the Burlington road. It has boon known for Bomo time that the roads were preparing reductions in tariffs that they would put In force prior to this state convention to allay agitation and nllow the roads to again control enough of the state ofllccnt and board of transporta tion to keep the present rich Holds of the Btato paying tribute to the roads and the dividends on wutoicd stock. Such schemes to cover the real Issues arc known , however , and tno public is forewarned in time to bo forearmed. WANTBD IN IM.INOIH. Sheriff Grimes was in the city to-day , coming from his home at Tccumsoh , with a nun named Samuel Goodrich whom ho tui nod over to the sheriff of Henry county , Illinois. The day following his departure the family used sugar from the family sugar bowl and almost immediately ivcro taken violently ill. Prompt measures taken early saved their lives , and the sus pected sugar was subjected to an examina tion which disclosed some ton grains of Btryclmlno In it. Suspicion was at once placed upon Goodrich as the party who placed the poison thcrc , before leaving , and ns ho had relatives at Tocumsch the sheriff was notified to arrest him if found. Shorill Grimes therefore made the search and found his man. A year or so ago Goodrich andhiswifo lived at Tceutnsch ami all was not harmonious ut that time. Goodrich claims that instead of his trying to take his wife's llfo that Ins life was in danger from lior , and gives that as his reason for leaving his homo for good. There being an Intimation of his having probably gotten hold of some of the funds of the bank and skipped , a reporter of Tun 13UE called at thatjmstltution yesterday and inter viewed Mr. Hamilton , the president , nnd Mr. Hallow , the cashlor. Mr. Hamilton said Gilbert had been In their employ nearly two years , but of la to his services have not been satisfactory ou account of ill-health. Such being the case , It was only a question of thno when the pavements , do- lirivcd of their support , would fall In sections into the trenches beneath. Mr. Balcombo's prophecy has been fulfilled in several In stances since , and ono of the most dangerous is the hole in the asphaltum ou Dodge street , between Thirteenth and Fourteenth. The concrete has fallen down and tradio over the spot has crushed in the asphaltum , and be fore long the hole will bo much larger. The Presbytery of Louisville has adopted the following concerning the the union of the northern und sounhorn churches : In reference to the question of union between the Presbyterian church of the United States of America , commonly designated us the northern nnd south ern Presbyterian churches , the Presby tery of Louisville expresses the follow- judgment , viz : Until our northern brethren can Bce * their way clear to adopt the policy of organizing the col ored people of the United Slates into separate churches , presbyteries and synods of their own , and until there shall bo a clearer and fuller understanding brought to boar upon the minds of many of our pco plo in inference to their interpretation and application of those points of our common oculcsiastical doctrine that now deal with secular and political questions judge thai the quiet , peace and prosperity of both churches will bo best secured by ceasing to agitate or prosecute the question of organic union , at least for the present.
