had been buying largely of August gave up

aborts who put prices up nearly J c In their
attempts to cover. This made the close
of the morning session quite strong at
nearly the highest prices touched.
Yesterday was a holiday for the Chicago
market but the other markets had been doing
business and had depressed prices so much
that the opening hero thin morning was Jf c
or so below Saturday's close and there was
oven n slight decline from this ; but It wasre- |
ported that exporters had taken forty loads
of wheat In Now York yesterday and the In
creased clearances served to strengthen the
idea that at last foreigners were wanting
American wheat. This also served to
fitrcngthan the courage of believers in wheat
nml there was fair buying good enough to
tidvanco prices % c. Then Jones , Kennctt &
Hopkins sold July and every local trader
who had some of that delivery appeared to
want to sell It utul the prlco sagged slowly
2 c , only to recover within the last few
minutes as above written. The magnitude
of the purchases of August , wheat by the llrm
named above led the crowd to put them down
ns buyers for the bull party for to-day at
least and oven that portion of the crowd who
can "see no good in wheat" have u whole
some respect for the powers of the
. present bull party. Ono side or the other
will probably get the most powerful help
from government crop reports , which should
bo out next Saturday , unless , Indeed , it
Hhould show no change in the condition of
winter wheat , in which case it would doubt
less bo without effect. It Is awaited with
considerable anxiety. July wheat opened at
WJi'c , sold early at eMJjjc , then gradually ad
vanced to 84e and gradually fell to 8-l c.

The corn market suffered to-day from u
too abundant supply , The arrivals for two
days were 1,4&5 cars , of which 717 cars were
of contract grade and the estimate for to
morrow's receipts is ( HX ) curs. This does not
indicate that decided falling-eft in receipts ,
. which the bulls looked for and Is a dlsap-
polntmcift to them as well as an encourage
ment to short sellers. There was a fair
trade , Morton & Worthlngton being the
freest sellers. Ream bought some
corn. There was a fair ship
ping demand and reported charters
for ( ilfl.OOO bushels caused a firmer feeling
near the close. July corn opened ut fiojfc ,
lluctuatcd between f > 5kc and Kie forashort
time , then gradually declined until SJJ c was
touched on the announcement of estimates
for to-morrow , then advanced to MJfo and
closed there at I o'clock. September corn
opened at 5.c , sold up to .r)5jifCrtr > . % c , fell to
5-IJ < c and closed at 1 o'clock at 55c.
The heavy deliveries of oats last Saturday
made that market lower to-day , particularly
for the Juno delivery. The tnoro deferred
deliveries suffered less but declined some
what without any very active trading 'in
them. June oats opened at 33 ? c , which was
} ( o under Saturday's close , -sold at 8y } c , and
down to 8Uc , closing at 1 o'clock at iS3 } c.
July oats opened tit 'Mc , sold at UH fc , down
to 33c , and closed ut X < @ ( c. Scp-
tcmbcr oats opened at 27 0 bid , sold down
to 27 * 0 and closed with that price bid.
Provisions experienced a substantial ad
vance. The unexpected light run of hogs
which was followed by n sharp im provemcnt

among the shorts in the product. The de
mand from this class of traders really turned
the tide and under the lead of lard the gen
eral market moved up without mectiug much
opposition. Higher prices wore the rule and

Although the cattle market is rapidly ad
vanciiifr , the receipts continue very light.
There wore- only forty-nine fresh loadb on
sale to-day. The market opened active at an
advance of 105o ! or about 25o higher than
last Saturday. The demand was good ant
the cuttle wore all sold out early in the morn-
Ing. As high as $4.1H ) was paid for one choice
bunch weighing 1,260 ibs.

The receipts of hogs were liberal to-day ,
there being 101 frcuh loads on sale. The
market opened 5@10o higher , but weakcner'
on account of the heavy receipts. The general
oral market , however , was about 5c higher.

turned last night from a week's visit in

W. H. Lewis , Columbus , and C. E. Welch ,
Papilllon. were among those who marketed
50c hogs.
B. S. Trucrman , a well known cattle buyer
of East Liberty , Pa. , was hero aud bought
several car loads for shipment.
J. J. Mann , of the firm of Mann & Street ,
was hero and marketed eleven loads of alfalfa
hay fed cattle from Colorado.

F. G. Kleno , Albion , was In this morning
and marketed a very fine load of Galloway
steers , averaging 1,800-lbs. They wore raised
and fed by Colonel Brninard who has a ranch
