THE IIOAD TO THE NORTHWEST. Wlint Lending Citizens Would deFer For Such a Ijinc. The discussion which has been going on for some weeks past regarding the project of a railroad to the northwest seems to bo at tended with promising results. Shclton. ICountzo , Barker , Poppleton , Woolworth , Hitch cock and others. The question was discussed nnd finally the sense of the meeting was taken that if a railroad were bu.lt with , the proper safe-guardswhich would be tributary to this city and drain the most desirable sec tion of the state which is not now supplied with railroads , those present would subscribe in the aggiegato $500,000. The plan of a road to the northwest has not been abandoned and it Is quite likely , now , that some gentlemen who have before kept aloof from the enterprise , are taking an interest in the same , the road will bo built. The county willbo expected to aid liberally in the undertaking , because the present aim of the projectors is to make the road a homo organization. Another meeting will bo held soon. DEMOCRATS.
