CHICAGO , May S5. [ Special Telegram to
THE NEB. ] It was another goodday in wheat
for the scalper and the commission man.
Thcro was n range of IJ c , and the fluctua
tion wan up and down and down and up , so
that both sellers and buyers had only to got
In at the right moment to both mako. * July
Btnrtcd nt , 87 ; ! c , and was weak on selling by
Hutclilnson and on general realizing by
Thursday's ' buyers. Cables were not deci
sive and cxpjrls wcro small. Their Inllu-
cnco took the prlco down KC to Wc for
July nnd &SnO for December. Cudahy was
n moderate buyer on the decline. Norton
& Worthltigton began nt 81jc } , and until
the market turned took 200,000 bushels nt
each ifc ( decline. When the decline stopped
they left the market. There was a report In
the pit that the McCormlek Harvester com
pany had Issued n report giving an estimate
of only 40 per cent yield of winter wheat.
It had a decisive bull influence. Afterward
the report was denied , but the market did
not set back. The truth of the story Is the
general superintendent of this big corporation
did say that ho should Judge from reports
of his agents that the winter wheat yle'ld
would not bo above 40 per cent of a crop , but
the company abandoned getting out reports
Bovcral years ago. The guess of the superin
tendent , whllq worth something , is consequently
quently not based on any methodical sum
mary of the news facilities of the company.
Ream was unquestionably a big buyer.
Brokers gave up his natuo on n lot of wheat
just before the 1 o'clock close. During the
day , however , ho was uersonally openly n
seller , offering at 87c 500,000 bushels or any
part. Tills was probably to aid the raid opara-
tlonsjjf his brokers. Primary market receipts
wcro 100,000 bushels and the exports only
83,000. Outside markets wcro strong. July
opened at 87c , sold between 80J < o nnd 8SJ c
and nt 1 o'clock closed at S8X@SStf c.
The receipts of corn 700 cars were above
expectations and the quality the highest so
far on the crop. Of the 790 cars 518 , or a little
tlo over C5 per cent , graded No. 2. The
result was a break of nearly So in
May and of nearly lo in July.
There was less significant trading than
usual and the estimates for Saturday 710
cars wcro largo enough to increase the
weakness. On the other hand tbo shipping
dcmaud for low grades was good. May corn
opened at 58c , and at 1 o'clock was down to
txo. July opened at 50 > .fc , and at 1 o'clock
closed at G5c.
May oats shorts were given another twist.
May opened at 30J/c and sold up to 83c , and
thcro was a great deal of covering by the
smaller shorts. Norton & Worthington ,
while undoubtedly selling through .brokers ,
helped the price Up by openly buying. They
wore largo buyers of July , taking ono 150,000
bushel lot from Raymond. July opened at
83J o and at 1 o'clock closed nt 83c.
In provisions trading is still slow. Traders
of all classes cash and speculative showed
even moro than the usual indifference , and
the day passed without witnessing any
change to speak of. The product , however ,
was hold comparatively steady , though nt 1
o'clock lard nnd bbort , ribs stood 3M@oo
lower tha'h last night's ' final prices. Pork
was unchanged to li > o lower. Fluctuations
all around were conllned to narrow limits.
AFTBHNOON Sns ioN Wheat lower ; May
closed at aoout SO c and Juno at SG5 c. July
opened at 8Sc , sold ut S7j5 c up to SSjtfc , off to
8To sparingly , closing nt 67.c bid , August

Pork was quiet and unchanged , closing at

ber. Lard was a shade easier. Juno closed
