HARD "SOAP.
Herman JKouutzo Puts n Million Dollars
lars Airnlnst the Now Soap AVorks.
Tim Ben sotno days ago published nn an
nouncement that the W. A. Page Soap com
pany , an Iowa institution , hnd purchased
fronrJ. D. Her n part of the old Boyd packIng -
Ing house In which they Intended as soon as
possible to begin tlio manufacture of soap
and thus give employment to a number of
men. Yesterday It was ascertained thnt
Herman Kountzo was opposed to the estab
lishing of n soap factory at the place Indi
cated and was Immediately called upon by
Tun Bcu man to ascertain the truth of the
rumor.
Mr. ICountzo snld thnt ho was opposed to
the opening of n soap factory at the place
indicated. It was but half u dozen blocks
below his place , and such n factory could not
bo otherwise than Injurious to the neighbor
hood. It would give out offensive odors , nml
mnko it unpleasant for the people who hnd
settled thcro nnd invested largo sums of
mono ) ' in permanent nnd beautiful homes
and edifices. Such had been the history of
soap factories wherever they hnd bccu
erected , and Mr. Kountro Instanced a case In
St. Louis , where a soap factory on Locust
street had long been a source of annoyance
to the neighbors , ana a means of depreciating
the surrounding property. Thnt gentleman
also stated that ho aid not know in what way
the opposition to the enterprise would bo
brought to bear upon It , because'tho thought
of those opposed had not yet crystalizcd to
that extent. Mr. Kountzo said that ho wns
not aloiio in opposing the factory. A number
of other people hnd signed the
remonstrance which , It Is thought , will be
soon brought before the council.
"How much property , real and personal , is
interested in the opposition ! " tiskcd THE Bun
man.
"Ono million dollars , nt least , " said Mr.
Kbunlzo.
Meanwhile , the Page Soap company have
sent circulars to nil their Iowa customers In
forming them of the transfer of their factory
to Omaha and requesting them to call , nftor

A PEACEFUL. ADJUSTMENT.
The Cable and the Holt Line AKCC to
Ajjree.
The trouble between the Missouri Pacific
relative to the crossing at 'Twentieth nnd
Nicholas street has been settled without , any
trouble. It will bo remembered that when
the cable company constructed its track
across the switch ot tho'Missouri"Pacific at
the point named that the railroad company
promptly filled it up. At first it was alleged
that the company took this action in the in
tercst of the hofbo car company but it now
transpires that it did so In order to protect
their own tracks. Mr. Lillie of Kansas
City came up Sunday and the matter has
been arranged and the cubic company will
provide for the safety of the tracks of the
Missouri Pacific while laying their own track.

The incessant cry of "bargains , " "great sacrifices , " etc. , etc. , is hoard all over , but thd
people discriminate WHO is ADVEHTISING THE UAIIGAINS. In all our advertisements we ad
here closely to the truth ; we do not even allow you to deceive yourself , and when , as is
often the case an article looks much better than it really is , wo toll you exactly WHAT
IT is. Wo have seized the opportunity here to build up a great business on popular
prices. The result shows that wo have succeeded , and wo point with pride to our pres
ent and ever growing popularity. "We have gained the confidence of the people by al
ways fulfilling the promises made in our 'advertisements. Our reputation for lowest
prices being established , we intend to maintain the same by oilering a series of bargains
which no other house can approach.
The offering < pro make this week , is the grandest over'made in the line of reacly-mado
clothing :
"We place on sale 300 Fine Cussimero Suits Sacks and Frocks , worth $18 ; at the unprec-
edontly low price of Ten Dollars each. The material of , which these suits are made ,
is the product of one of the best mills in the country. They are well trimmed with
the best farmer's satin lining , perfect fitting and tailor made. We are willing and
anxious that they be placed alongside of , and critically compared , with any. $18 suit
offered by any other house.
Many other of our choicest suits have been marked down this week , some four or five
dollars. They could not be sold at the opening of the season for near what we offer
them now.
Have you seen the elegant Fancy Flannel Coat and Vest we offer at 95c. It wil pay
you to look at it.
