All of the hacks , busses nnd express wag ons , as well as the street cars were called into requisition yesterday to transport the many visitors and citizens who wished to sco the races , to the driving park. The fast time of the preceding day convinced all that the horses entered for the various stakes nnd purses wcro among the best In the country , and everyone who relished an exciting con test of speed had prepared to bo on hand. The track was at least live seconds faster than on Tuesday , and the horses were seen at their best. Betting was very lively and the interest that was manifested when the pools wcro opened on the preceding evening was oven moro decided nt the time for tlio races drew near. The Judges gave notice of their determination to allow no foolishness , and threatened heavy flues upon any Jockeys who should Indulge in any funny work nt the score. iiAcn NO. 1. The run home was not especially interesting. 13cppo full back to third placo. Merlin coming under the wire llrst and Chancellor second. Tlio others were unplaced. The time was 1 .OH'4' ' . When tlio bell tapped "rulers up" for the second heat , the effects of the new order requiring pi empt obedience was noticeable , and the horses were cjulckly nt the post. TJio drum tapped on the third trial nnd away they went. It was a very poor stai t , Berlin. For rest King soon took the lead , nnd set tlio pace up the back stretch so fast that the line wns soon very lengthy. The race was entirely between Jessie J. , Derby and Forrest King , and they came under the wire in the order named in 1 :55 : % . The Jockeys realized that whipping wns use less , and but little of it wns seen. Tlio horses that had Just came up from the south had every advantage , being in good condition , whereas the northern horses wcio in no shupo for fast running , many of them not having had even n fast gallop until coming here.
