The week opcne l with heavy receipts of
cattle , nearly two thousand head of fresh re
ceipts being on sale. The feeling on the mar
ket was weaker nnd there was an apparent
intention on the part of buyers to bear prices
"own. They did not succeed , however , in
iuylng handy little cattle any lower , but
icavy and coarse cattle wcro easier. One
unen of very fancy heavy cattle reached
$4.50 , the top paid on this market for some
mo back.
The hog market to-day was active and the
ccelpts liberal. The better grades of heavy
logs sold steady , as high as $5.50 being paid
iy the Boston uuycrs. Light nnd mixed bogs
vero not quite as brisk , and the market
loscd Co lower on that kind. The hogs were
all sold and the morkct closed early.

in the collln line ? Are there any or
many , or does the style , etc. , remain un
changed ? "
"Oh , there have been many things
now introduced in the way of cofllns or
burial caskets as many of the trade pre
fer to call them. One cotlln introduced
some years ago was cylindrical , with a
votary top. Then there was a collin
invented that admitted of the two
halves closing into each other , so that
it could be shut up like a telescope and
made largo enough for an adult or small
enough for a child. I've ' heard of an
other ono made of rubber in sections ,
so that it could bo closed
and carried in a valise. Per
haps the inventor had an idea that
would bo purchased by people going on
a railway journey , and who in case they
wcro killed wanted to have their burial
outfit ready at hand. I understand
that in the patentolHccthoro is a model
of u collin which is high enough for the
occupant to sit up in if ho shoul happen
to feel like it. It is intended as a pre
ventive of death by premature burial ,
and if the party in the collin suddenly
comeb to life a 'wire attached to the
hands rings a bell in a part of the collin
which projects nbovo the grave and
keeps ringing until assistance comes. "

cases are extremely rare. It is usually a
matter of no dUHculty to determine that
death 1ms ended the drama of lifo , still
some of the signs of dissolution may bo
mibslng. Lifo may possibly oxifat while
the body is cold and rigid , but any anx
iety that may bo felt us to the possibil
ity of persons being buried alive is un
necessary when even ordinary and
proper precautions are taken. The
premature burial of a living person
must , if it happens at all , bo the result
of inexcusable haste or carelobsncfas. In
doubtful cases a proper examination by
a competent medical man would render
such n horrible mistake absolutely im
possible. "
