IlAWLms , Wyo. , April 20. | pondcnco of the BKE. ] From Sun Crest , \Vyo. , on the Horizon river , there comes a wicrtl nnd ImunUng Btory. Just beyond the Httlo town of Sun Crest there stands on the bnld brow of n lofty hill n largo nnd dilnpidntcd house. The size and position of this ancient building hits earned for it n romnntic nnmo , nnd It is known fnr nnd wide through the country side as the "cas tlo. " Several years ngo the "cnstlo" found n tenant in "Unelo Pcto , " n , vcn- ornblo African. "Unelo Pete" wns ns good ns ho was voncnrblo , nnd soon became - came n prime favorite throughout the community. Like so mnny of his sable race the old Afric.tn wns n nnturnl musician nnd mnny a social gathering of the little frontier settlement wns enlivened - livened by the tones of his banjo nnd chnrmed by his qunint old plantation fconga. But time missed on , nnd the in- oviUtblo fate which nliko awaits the white mnn and the black claimed its due. The old man wns gathered to his fathers , nnd to this gathering of the full mul the ripe cm- docs Sun Crest ewe its haunting talc of mystery nnd midnight. Ono midnight about two weeks since the "castlo" wns observed to bo brilliantly lighted up. A dark shadow was soon to pass back ward nnd forward within , the familiar music of the old banjo \viis heard nnd on the wing of the wind there How through Sun Crest the start ling report that % 'Unclo Polo" had re turned from the grave , and was once more keeping open house nt the "castlo. " On the day following the night of the second coming of the old African the "cnstlo" wns visited by n timorous but ergor crowd. A thorough search of the old house from top to bottom tom failed to dcvolopo any "Unelo Pete , " or any sign of his recent pres- olice , nnd marveling and mystified the people returned to town. A watch wns kept that night , nnd promptly nt the "witching" hour of 12 suddenly the "castle" ugnin gleamed with light and again the dark shadow passed to nn fro within the building. En mnsso Sun Crest proceeded to in vestigate. As the crowd ascended the hill on which the "castlo" wns perched there was heard the sound of music. Louder nnd more distinct came the mellow tones. The people involun tarily halted nnd gazed at each other in btnrtled and dread amaze. Not one of the party but what know nnd recognized "Unelo Poles" inimitable touch on the bnnjo. Mute , they looked into each others fnces , and then by one consent their eyes were turned to the "castle. " and what a sight mottheirgnzol There , framed in one of the windowlcss windows dews of the old "cnstlo , " stood the sem blance oP'Unclo Pete , " bnnjo in hand , nnd then far more than half nn hour the night air around and about the nearly paralyzed , but wholly unrnptured lis teners , sweetly throbbed with the pnthotic cndences of "Old Folks nt Homo , " "Mnssa's In The Cold , Cold Ground , " etc. , or rang with the wild and reckless melody of the plantation break-down. The music nbruptly censed "Unelo Pcto" : disappeared ns suddenly ns ho hnd appeared ; the lights vanished , nnd once more the old "cas tlo ' were the aspect of deariness nnd desertion. The spell wns broken. The crowd rushed cngerly forward ; entered the building poll moll and rapidly spread through it. In vain. Naught wns found but rotting wood-work , cold hearth stones nnd wind-swept passages. Since thnt night to Instnccounts Uncle Pete hns nppenred nt the "castlo" ns rcgu- Inrly ns midnight nnd furnished n largo and enthusiastic Sun Crest audience with half hour banjo music free and un surpassed. The good people of Sun Crest fully recognize and appreciaio the fact that they are in recoiptof the attentions of n visitant from the other and better world , nnd ns the semblance of the an cient African stands in the windows of tlio old castle ut midnight surrounded by the halo of unearthly fires , nnd all of the blessed nnd blossoming memories of a blameless life there is loudly ex pressed the commendable nnd creditable thnt "Unelo Pete's" opinion on common white wool rests the sheen of angel's wings. Queer Pits nnd Starts. The fits and stnrts using thcso words in their literal monning of the ner vous people often strike the beholder ns ludicrous. The nerves of henring of such unfortunates nro painfully acute , nnd impinged by abrupt , unexpected noises , lead them sometimes to perform antics worthy of a jumping jack. At the root of nervousness , in most in stances , is non-assimilation of the food , nnd consequently innutrition of the nerves ns of the other tissues of the body. This prolonged , is , of courco , productive of serious nervous disease. The remedy is Hostottor's Stomach Bitters - tors , thnt invigornto the stomnch and enable it to perform its functions prop erly. Soon after commencing n course of ft , it will bo found that the nerves grow more tranquil by day , nightly repose - pose becomes loss interrupted , and ap petite more vigorous und satisfying. Thcso are the initial indications , fol lowed by the complete restoration of nervous vigor. The Bitters also euro fever and nguolivor , complaint and con stipation. The police developments at Atlanta of a much-married blind "millionaire , " who claimed to own a gold mine near Butte , Mont. , shows how willingly his "victims" were caught with the pro- tcnded cold dust by means of which he duz-ilcij their eyes. The women nnd girls who cjsrorly run after a total stranger , one of then ) mnrryingjhiraon a more suggestion during tin evening stroll , can not count on much sympathy from the public ut largo , In Elllngham , 111 , , in North and South Carolina , Ten nessee , Ohio nnd Indiana there appear to bo other blinded persons who married this Fleming oft hnndorutlenst without due knowledge of him. The postmaster at Butte City furnishes this information , together with the news that no such mine owner was known there , which no body scorns to 1mvo sought for until after thcso numerous marriage cere monies had been performed. It used to be customary to demand some creden tials from newly arrived travelers who ought alliance * with well known fami lies , but the zeal of thuso candidates for matrimony in their hatto to share the reputed fortune of an elderly blind man no doubt soonied such delays. Some of { tliqm , at least , must have be'en us ready I to tmtrap this puthoUcally intere'stiii ? person , rich enough to offer them a bridal trip to Florida , ns the enterpris ing Flomlnff waa to tnko lo himself thcso youthful partners. It is too much to bo expected that the publication of such incidents from Illinois to Georgia , and oven the appearance at Atlanta , 01 the Efllnghnm ( Illinois ) bride , who was d&- Eortcu on her bridal trip to Florida , will put a stop to such fatally wild romances In the future. The "old acquaintance" sharp still gathers in hiscupeg from among Di slncsfl mbn for a""pfeTcnacu lottery drawing , in spite of repented publications of thcso billy histories. At least the Samuel Foming incident should inform even the most enthusiastic young women that United States postmasters ought to bo both good and incorrupti ble informants as to a man's otatus and reputation in n small town , and that the way is always pen to communicate with thcso ; ourcos of information. A two-cont .itnmp , or oven a postal card , sent to Butte City would have brought the ro- luircd , oven if undcsircd , intelligence that this Fleming wns a fraud. But dc- iays are dangerous , the candidatesprob- ibly argued. The tempting opportu nity to go to Florida nsa bride might bo ntorforcd with by suspicious or sharp icoing relatives ol the blind millionaire .iforcsald , and so they rushed into the bonds that have made thorn each ono of \ crowd of witnesses to the matrimonial 'blind pool. " There can really bo very .ittle sympathy for such reckless specu- ators tn matrimonial engagements. What you need is a medicine which is pure , olllcfcnt , reliable. Such is Hood's Snrsaparilln , Nearly everybody takes it. Try it yourself. FLYING FOR HIS LIFE. low the Emperor \Vllllnni Once Hml to Hide In Barns nnd Ditches. London Queen : This remarkable ac count , which has only now been made public , although the more important tletails were known , is abstracted from the unpublished memoirs of a diplo matist , who was a participator in the events of the eventful year of revolu tion , and an oye-witnc&s of much that concerned the Into Emperor William of ormnny. In 1848 , the year of the continental revolutions , the people of Berlin , fol lowing the example of those of Paris , raised barricades , and after four days' fighting the king , the older brother of the late emperor , who \vns then Prince of Prussia , ordered the prince , who had been organizing the attacks on the barricades , to retire with the troops from Potsdam , Prince Wil liam sought an interview with the king , who refused to rescind the order , when the prince broke his sword , and , throw ing it at his elder brother's feet , loft the palace. The nobles nnd thoi aristoc racy wished the king to abdicate in favor of the prince ; but the people were bo enraged against the latter in consequence quence of his ordering the barricades to bo carried by the troops , that \\f \ \ > had to escape in disguifco , whilst the democ racy triumphed , and paraded Iho king on horseback through the streets of Berlin. The prince , disguised as a coachman , took refuge on an island in the river ; but hero ho wns not tafe and he lied to Spandau ; but , being known , the mayor talked of giving him up to the democrats ns a traitor to his coun try , nnd ho was again obliged to have recourse lo flight to save his life. To save the crown jewels , the plate and the imperial treasures from the clutches of the victorious party , it was necessary to remove them from the palace. Fortunately a private door opened on to the river , and the valu ables were placed on board barges , which , for the purposes ol disguise , were draped with black cloth , as though they contained the bodies of insurgents slain at the barricades. In this manner they wore transferred to the railways , and reached Hamburg as merchandise , and were put on board a vessel about to leave for England. The prince , however - over , had to leave the railway , being threatened with death on several occasions ; to save his life ho hnd still further to disguise himself , cutting off his beard nnd wearing strange clothing. Wandering on foot ho hid himself in ' tiwny peasants' cot tages and slept in barns. It was import ant that ho should embark for England without being recognized. To accom plish this end ho passed over the fron tier on to Danish territory and arrived at last at a villa belonging to his friend Oswald , where , for the llrst time since ho loft Berlin , ho enjoyed tlio luxry of 11 bed. The following any the priuce , under the name of Muller , embarked on board a vessel about to sail for London , accompanied by a single aide-de-camp. Its thousands of cures are the best ad vertisement for Dr. Sago's Catarrh Remedy. Mules More Dangerous Tim 11 Pan thers. Jacksonville ( Fla. ) Herald : At City Point , fifteen miles below Titusvillo , the steamer touches to discharge freight and passengers. A few days ago a pan ther was captured there under very pe culiar circumstances. Mr. Hatter was plowing in a field , when ho learned thnt an animal of this species hnd just passed through the thicket a short dis- tnnco off. Ho mounted his mule nnd rode rnpidly in pursuit. It was not long before the panther was overtaken , and the hunter easily shot him. This was not the end , however. At the sight of the animal and the smell of his blood the mule was suddenly seized with fear , nnd roaring upon his hind legs , struck out his fore foct indiscrimi nately at the dying animal nnd Mr. Hat- tor. The latter received serious inju ries from the heavy blows' inflicted , and nt list accounts was considered in a dangerous condition. DrosEed , the panther measured 0 foot from tipto tip and weighed 180 pounds. The hossons oP'Uysor Frltt" O sc. ] The greatest doctors fn Europe don't Bccm to l now wlmt.ixjls "Unso Fritz. " Thus are the Garllold nnd Grant epi sodes repeated , and riiiblio confidence in "export" medical knowledge is ngaln shaken. The effect is a revulsion. Since the fatal days of 1888 , mnny of the doctrines of the schoolmen concern ing extensive medication have boon abandoned , nnd nil 'schools of prnctico tvro more nnd mofro relying upon old- fashioned simple root'and herb prepara tions and careful nursing the only ro- Manccs known to OUP ancestors.
