" Mr , Fanning , of the street sweeping firm Of Fanning & Slaven wns asked yesterday about the charge that his foreman had been ' "bleeding" Italian labors at the rate of fifty cents per month on the promise of steady labor. Ho said that , of late , ho had sus pected that the foreman was engaged In that kind ot business , though ho bcciuno positive of it only when the laborers and the foreman fell out and then the former Informed him of the enforced tribute. On last Saturday Mike O'Brien swore out a warrant against William Bulundcr , who ho claimed had niado an assault upon him wltl a deadly weapon with murderous intent The case cnmo up for trial in the police couri yesterday and the testimony produced fallcc to substantiate the charge. All that wai proved was that O'Brien and Bulander lint been engaged in a light , that O'Brien knockci Bulundor down , and as the latter fell his re volver dropped from his pocket. Ho picket the revolver up and handed it to his wife without making any offensive or threatening gesture with it. The case was dismissed am both plain tin" and defendant arrested on the cbargo of disturbing the pence. As bet ) plead not guilty , they will bo given trials to morrow in the police court. The Pennsylvania legislature passed an actby which the manufacture of nil brands of artificial butter wns prohibited within the state. The bogus butter men carried the case to the United States supreme court , maintaining that the net was unconstltu- lonnl. The court in its decision asserted hat "any state had the right to prohibit the nanufncturo of Imitation butter as a part of ts police powers. " or , in other words , that if twas believed that bogus butter was not considered a legitimate article of food , Its nnmifucturo could by each state bo prohib * ted by an act of its legislature. Had to bo Amputated. Nine years ago Harry Dawson , an employe n the Union Pacific shops , fell down a well and among the many Injuries Incurred broke a leg below the knee. The bones wcro badly 'racturcd and when ho had recovered It was 'ound that the Injured member was nt least 'our Inches shorter than the other. A shoo with n three inch solo was used , and up to about three weeks , ngo worked admirably. An accidental turn ofjtho ankle , however , caused the leg to assume alarming proportions tions and Dawson was taken to St. Joseph's : iospltal where amputation wns decided upon ay the attending physlelons and the opera tion successfully performed , the leg being cut off two inches below the knee. Since the amputation ho has improved rapidly and next week will go to Dodge City , Kan. , where ho intends to make his home in the future. S'cbrasUa Buiiday School Association. Billy Downs , who pleaded guilty to the charge of grand larceny some time ago , was led into court yesterday for sentence , which was imposed by his honor with that sang frold for which ho is so justly cele brated : "Two years in the penitentiary. " Abraham Friedlander ycstercday ap peared In the district court and stated that ho Is the owner of lot 4 , in block 81 , in the city of South Omaha , which ho pur chased of Moses Harwich for $8,000 and re ceived a deed which Is duly recorded. That defendants , Duder & Click , recorded Judg ment against Henry S. Ilewctt and that an execution was Issued against a two-story building situated on the above de scribed premises ns the property of said Howett when In reality It is the property of said plaintiff. Another Judg ment similar to the one mentioned above has also been rendered In favor of Saxo Bros. , for which an execution has been issued against the property. Plaintiff prayed that an injunction restraining defendants from selling said property bo issued.
