CHICAGO I'UOMUCB MAIIKKT.
CHICAGO , April 10. [ Special Telegram
to the llKB.1 This was the bulls'dny on the
lioanl nnd they went all through the list.
The first attack was mmlo In the provision
pit , where the prlco of iwrh was advanced
? 6c per barrel In n very short time.
Whllo this was going on the Ri-nln markets
liad been slowly snsgiiiK , but presently there
\vns o stir In the corn pit and up went the
jiricc of May corn about Jfe In < i few min
utes. Whllo this was done nnil for some little -
tlo time afterward the prlco of wheat
scarcely moved , but Us turn ilnnlly came and
the proceedings in that market were the most
exciting of all. The prlco of May wheat ail-
vnnced lj < c with scarcely a halt lioforo there
was the fillghtcst reaction , the price at the
top being 1X@1 ? < C above the lowest
point of the session. The government
crop report was so much the most
powerful Influence In the wheat market
that when It came nil other news and cir
cumstances were completely lost sight of.
The only point In It for which the wheat
traders cared was that the condition of win
ter wheat was put at 82 against ftf last year ,
when a light crop of winter wheat was
raised. When the rcixirt came the shorts ,
big nnd little , bid for wheat us if this WIIH the
last day In which grain could bo bought on
this earth. It was a very lively scramble ,
nnd after a time buyers began to think they
were overdoing the thing. Somebody \vaa
selling wheat and n suspicion grew that
some of the big hears , who were openly nnd
In person bidding for largo blocks of
wheat , without actually buying much , had
brokers in the pit selling more wheat on the
bulge. Then the crowd turned sellers , ami
the price full ? { , but again advanced > < , ' ( ,
and closed within 'te ' of the highest point of
the session. May wheat opened at 7lB'c ; ) , and
after selling early at TU Tl r , worked
down to TlifiSTli'dO , advancing to 1(1)4c ( ) , when
the upward inovMiient in corn began. Then
when the government report arrived there
was an uninterrupted advance to 77e , fol
lowed by a decline to 'i ( ' < % c , nnd another
advance to 7rV. which wan the prlco at the
1 o'clock close , .lime wheat opened at 77c ,
sold down to ( % - then up to TSJif , closing
at 1 o'clock at 7J.V. $
The ri-ceiptit uf corn were 4'cars \ less
than the estimate , and there was good buy
ing about the opening which caused n Himill
advance , but llutchhmm was n heavy seller
and for a time buyers hud enough to do to
take care of his oirerlngs. Ills sales
were estimated at 7. > ( ) ,0K ( ) bushels ,
and before ho had finished there had been a
drop of lie in prices. Hut the demiind con
tinued after those offerings closed nnd the
price advanced sharply about * jC , nnd closed
nearly at the top. The swift upturn in wheat
seemed to have no effect uiion corn , which
remained almost stationary while it occurred.
Trading hero was not especially largo with
the exception above noted. May corn opened
nt r/J' i' , sold up early to f'J'Mcr'J1.c ( ; , then
down to fi'J Vc , up to r 'J ? < c , back to r'Jie and
back to fBJfc , where It closed ut 1 o'elook.
Juno corn opened at MJ& ; sold at Sljfc , up
to fi'J'aC and closed at 1 o'clock at , r > 'J'4c bid.
The oats market Hhiircd in the general ac
tivity and improvement in values. May oat.s
opciied at ! ( OJ < e , sold early at I'.Opj'c ' , then up
to : nj4X llH'c , and closed at 1 o'clock at HIV
CKlUj'e. Juno oats opened at .lOJie , sold at
UOV "nd illc , closing at :5.7 : ( ) < c.
In provisions trading was animated , yet
outside of May pork , which was bought
freely by old raiders to cover their short con
tracts , business was by no means as largo as
might bo inferred from the stir witnessed.
In May pork Initial sales were made at . * H.r ( ) ,
but the market advanced in an erratic man
ner to tl4.77 } < , declined Kic , and closed at
JH.IiU. Juno pork , which received less than
the usual attention , sold at a small premium
to r > ( 7 , ' c under May. closing , however , at
May prices. Later deliveries than June
were iniiot. A representative of the holders'
clicuo | was the principal seller of May pork ,
and an advance was established of Jty CiMiru.1.
Lard was held very steady , though 1 o'clock
quotations showed a decline of U c.
AITKHXOON SnhsioN Wheat , excited and
higher ; May opened at 77 < ( ; < > 77Je ( : , sold at
The , then to 77f7724'e , up to TS tBTSV ,
closing at 7SJf@7.v\c ; Juno closing at TU'hC
and July ? % e. Corn , linn ; May closing nt
5Hc bid ; Juno , f > 2X " - , July , .VJ ? @ .T. > > $ c. Oats ,

Tiio receipts ot cattle were unusually
lieavy to-day , there being close to three
thousand head on Rale. The market was all
I he way from 10M20o lower , the decline be
ing apparently due to the heavy receipts aiid
the lower tnnrkcts cast. Doth packers and
shippers were , liberal buyers , and inore cattle
changed hands than on any last week , but
for all that only about half the offerings
were taken. The market was prolonged
from early in the morning until dark and for
ttmt reason appeared very dull and slow ,
while in reality enough cattle were sold 'to
make an active market had the trading been
limited to the hours usual in other markets ,
The bulk of the cattle on sale wore corn fed
native steers , and while they were of fair
avrrape and quality , thcro were a good many
light cattle nnd no very heavy cattle changed
hands.
