THE OM.AHA DAILY BEE ; THURSDAY , APKIL 5 , 1888. pained 1J , nnd Northwestern 2. The mot of the grangers were tip 1 to 2 points. Rending was nctlvo nnd appreciated 1J < . The whole list followed the leaders closely , and trading up to noon was heavy. Operators who bought yesterday began realizing about midday. The bears who covered early had little fitlth In the permanency of values nnd began selling freely. The slightest reces sions resulted from the increased offerings , but later the market developed surprising strength and the declines \vert more than recovered. . It was expected that the reduc tion of 'Jj > er cent in Atehlion dividend nnd the decrease of $231,000 In St , Paul earnings for March would have a depressing effect. They cut little figure , however , there being too many shorts who cared more to secure their profits while In sight than to the bad statement. The market advanced almost steadily during the last hour , the closing Bales on n majority of stocks being at the outside figures of the day , showing net gains from yesterday's close of 3 points on St. Paul , 2)i ) on Hurllngton , 2 % on Heading and Missouri pacific , \f \ on Northxvcstcrn , 2 on Canada Southern , nnd ] * on Western Union. The total sales were -152,001 shares. UOVHIINMRNTS Government bonds were dull but steady. TII.STP.ltnAT'S QUOTATIONS. tj. II. 8. 4.1 coupon. do preferred . 1.10 U.S. < ! } srcKl8tred.lW !
