UNIOS' STOCK YAnns.Op. m. I
Thursday , March 22. 18S8. I
The receipts of nil classes of stock to-day
were liberal and would have been heavier
had the U it M. trains succeed in reaching
the yards before the market closed ,
Cnttle.
The receipts to-day were very liberal nnd
the qunllty of the stock , generally , averaged
better thnn It has for omc time. Among the
offerings were some very good native steers
nnd some choice Hereford cnttlo for which
offers of $505 were refused. The market
opened vrry slow with buyers trying to pur
chase nt lower prices nnd not until the mid
dle of the afternoon did trading become very
nctlvo when a spurt occurred nnd a consider
able number changed hands at prices 10@15o
lower chiefly on heavy cnttle. The offerings
of butchers stock were not quite as good as
the averaged for some time else this clnss of
stock would doubtless have sold nt better
prices. Choice butchers' stock was in good
demand nt prices about steady but the offerIngs -
Ings an stated were not of the best. The
local nnd shipping demand were each very
good nnd a Inrge number changed hands.
llogfl.
The offerings included those held over from
yesterday were liberal and the quality wns
very peed although there wns some common
stuff among them , The market opened slow at
the closing prices of the previous day nutl the
entire receipts amounting to nbout llfty-nmo
lands were tnkcn with the exception of nbout
three loads at 2 o'clock. The local demand
wns good , Armour , the Omaha and Hammond
mend taking everything. The closing prices
were nbout steady.
Slicep.
The receipts of sheep to-day were 145 head
which wcie bold on the market. Forty-three
fnlr sheep sold nt $5.00 which wns n very
good sale the average being &G-lbs.

Some salesmen occasionally refuse to give
quotations on stock sold by them. As ship
pers and country buyers always govern them
selves In shipping or purchasing by the
weights nnd prices given in market reports
it is to say the least an injustice to them.
There arc two reasons for this action , one ,
that the stock sold at prices of which the
salesman is ashamed , the other that per
haps n prime bunch were disposed of nt pri
vate sale nt n fancy price. In the latter case
the price generally leaks out before the re
porter leaves ; in the former never.
The following , taken from last night's
World , relating to thu hog market , will
doubtless interest , many shippers : "Tho
stale loads nniong the receipts OR the market
had n tendency to rule the prices lower nt
the opening of the market this morning. The
prices paid on nil weights and grades were fie
lower than yesterday's prices. Loud com
plaints are heard from shippers on account of
their stock being delayed , causing a shrink
age , which the shippers nro losing. Tno buy
ers are not willing to pay the same for stale
loads that fresh stock would bring. " It
would seem from the above that n stale hog
although alive is as objectionable as u btulc
one dead. C3

Fnlth Cure for Wnrtn.
Dnnbury News : A young hidy in
town line been very much troubled over
u number of lurgo warts on her hnnds.
She lias tried every remedy she lias
over hcnrd of with tlio exception ol
having them removed with the knifo.
And all to no effect , until a last novel
remedy } ms done its work. She claims
to have got it from a gypsy woman.
She cuts pieces of paper in bquavcs and
largo enough to cover a wart. After
wetting them aho plasters one of them
on eacli wart. When the pieces o )
paper has dried she took them in the
full of the moon and placed them upon
the ground beneath the eaves of a
building where the water could drip
upon them. After they had been thor
oughly wet she placed them in an oven
to dry , and Jlnully she placed them in
the shape of a triangle upon her hand
and then thrust , her hand out of a third-
fctory window and blow them oil to the
winds. In three days the warts had
dibappcarcd. She is to confident of the
cure that she recommends it to all hoi
friends.
