THE QVIAHA ] DAILY BEE : SATURDAY. MAROH 17. 1888. THE SPECULATIVE MARKETS , AH Enormous Quantity of Wheat Offered For Sato. THE BEARS IN FINE FEATHER. Prices In. tlio Corn 'lt Follow the Course of iVlicat Trading In Cat tle Kalr HORS Low'cr QnolntloiiH , CHICAGO piionucE MAKKET. CHICAGO' , March 10. ( Special Telegram to the BER. ! Nature favored the wheat bears this morning and they welcomed her assist- unco and took advantage of It to the extent of driving the price of wheat down about another } { c. There seemed an enormous amount of wheat for sate , with the other few fihorts who were willing to take In their profits the principal buyers. The down turn was greatly helped by the coming out of long wheat on stop loss orders. Foreign In- flucnco was felt only In selling orders from the other side. May wheat opened hero at 79 c , which was } { o above yesterday's clos ing , and worked up early to TO gHi C , then declined to 7SJ c , reacted to illc and on the next down turn touched 78J&C , advanced ngaln to 78J < c , fell to 78Mc and closed at 1 o'clock at 78X ( < $78Jic. tune wheat opened at 70 C@iV ; < c , sold tit 79X straight and down to TOJfc'c , closing at 1 o'clock ate \ last named prices. Prices In the speculative corn market fol lowed the course of wheat , but there was better support hero at the decline and the drop was smaller , although the close was very near the lowest point of the session. Tnc rumor of n general strike , which was found so depressing In the wheat pit , had the same Influence hero , but the probable resto ration of freight rates , which it was thought would cut down receipts , went a long way toward counteracting its effect. May dellvi cry cloucd only @ > f c lower than yesterday afternoon. The corn bears have been count- inir on this declining market to BO discourage Tanners that It would largely increase their deliveries and this restoration of freight rates takes the force out of that reasoning. May corn opened nt 5l } c and worked up early to 513 | ( < J51Kc , then fell to fiOXc. re acted to fl@jfjfjo nnd closed nt 1 o'clock at COK@51c. Juno corn opened nt file asked , Bold up to Bl c. down to I0u and closed at that price nt 1 o'clock. There was a fair speculative trade In oats and the weakness in the other grain markets was reflected here but slightly , except in more deferred futures. May oats opened nt 31c , sold at31@31' < c nnd at SOJffc nnd closed at 1 o'clock at ; ! 0ilc. : Juno oats opened at 31c , sold down to and closed ut 3flc. August oats sold down from 27 > c to 27j c. For J uly oats tSO a was asked. In provisions n fair showing of strength was manifested. Prices were little lower than yesterday , but the decline suffered was more through sympathy with grain than from any weakness In the market or change in feeling. Based on last night's closings , pork was quoted at 1 o'clock 5c and lard and short ribs nl G@ KC lower. AVTEUNOOX SESSION. Wheat firmer , May closing nt 78 # ( < i7SJ < i' , Juno 79&C , July 79 > c.
