This compauy have nn exten sive ranch at Pine Bluffs , Wyo. Mr. Don Dreyfus , Swift's cattle buyer , ar rived from Chicago last evening and is get ting ready for action. Ho Informed n BKK reporter that they would begin killing about April 1. Mr. Dreyfus thinks that when the house is running at its fullest capacity that thu effect on the cattle and sheep market will salutary. The following reports to theDrnvcrs' Jour nal of Chlcugo tends to show the situation regarding stock In the territory aujnccnt to this market : One stockman from [ Lick , Wyoming , says : "Stock of all kinds ( that is. horses , cnttlo nnd sheep ) never looked better at this time of the year than they do now. There is no dlf- llculty In finding plenty of good bcof on the range nnd fat mutton In every flock of sheep. It presents quite n contrast to the outlook of the llvo stock interest in this country now and one year iigo. To-day you can ride out on the range , and horses ami cattle will curl their tails uu over their backs and make a run much ns they do in the summer time. One year ago In riding over the range If you saw any stock nt nil it was cither a carcass or n ghost of what was once n bovino. It would take u terrible condition to withstand the elements. Hay is rather more plentiful than heretofore and brings $10 in market. " A feeder , from Washington , la. , says : "In regard to fat cattle , they are nearly nil gone and 1 hnvo n carload left ; they nro nice nnd smooth and will average about 1,400 Ibs. and doing well. I think I will hold them for another strike. Most all of the fat hogs are gone. Stock hogs and brood sows are selling high. Feed seems to be rather more plenty than people expected it would be this spring. I fear some ha\'o fed too sparingly for the good of their stock. Washington county had n rather good crop of almost everything last summer except hay and potatoes , nnd some seem to have plenty of these. Stock of all kinds seems to be doing well considering their chance. I don't think the farmers of this county have much reason to complain except It should bo on low prices on cattle , but I don't think they will complain of this very long. " Another writing from Plersou , la. , remarks : "There arc more cattle being fed hero than over before. Corn is plentiful nnd sells for 30@31c per bushel. Hay ia from 52.50 to $ 3 per ton. Heavy hogs luivo mostly been shipped , nnd there is not ns many light hoga ns usual. " A stockman from Keeno- saw , Neb. , writes : "Winter ia still with us. Corn Is scarce. Hny plenty ; not much stock being fed. Am feeding 30J head of sheep. All stock appears to bo healthy. " Another from Linn Grove , la. , says of the situation in his part of the country : "All the good cattle nru nrctty near trono In tnis part ; there is a great number of youngcattlo. There are not many peed fnt hogs loft , and there is disease in some parts here. There nro but few sheep in this part. There are a good mmiy good horses here , too. Plenty of corn at 30 cenja n bushel ; outs , 21 cents per bushel , there is not half of it shipped yet. There la a grent deal of barley this year ; good sold at 52 cents per bushel. There is not much wheat this year. A few farmers feeding cattle for May. Hay , $2 to ? 3.50 a ton. " OMAHA. WHOLESALE MARKETS. Protlucc , Fruits , Nuts , Etc. Thursday , March 8.
