[ Special Telegram to the Hr.B.1 There was a very cold front tin the bull crowd In wheat this morning and prices for all futures not only opened } { < $ ? tfc higher than the closings , but advances were made during the forenoon under quite active trading. The deliveries of March were but trifling. Local receipts were forty-six cars , with an estimate of forty cars for Friday. Receipts throughout the northwest were light. At New York no wheat Was received and the clearances were 60,000 bushels , with 7,000 bushels at Philadelphia. Local buying appeared to be general on the hopeful bull feeling but It expended itself With a % c ad vance. March opened at 75JsO and sold at 70J < c. May ojKsncd # @ ? ifc better than tho. clone at bO > c and wld between NOVg80e ( before noon. JUIIQ opened at bO c ' and sold at bOJ c and then advanced to 80J c reading the latter with May. The closing nrlces at 1 p. m. were : March 75J c , May 80J c , Juno SOjtfc , July 80c. Again there was not an ear of No. 2 corn received at this point. The re ceipts were 191 cars and Friday's receipts were estimated at 193 cars. The closing prices at 1 p. in. , though not the outside for the season , were from ? c to % c better than last night. There was more strength shown In corn thun anything else on the door. There was not that persistent opposition to higher prices that was seen in the tactics of a few sellers of wheat. The trndo in corn seemed whimsical at times changing from buyers to sellers without change in quoted prices. The tendency , however , was upwards. There was libcrial buying by Urine , Poolc , Clifford and others , with some outside orders buck of the buying. ' March sold from 47c to I7 ! e. May opened at MjJ c , sold at 51 ' c and fil c- and closed at 51c ; June , 60c to 51 'c , closing utSl.'fc bid. There were fair orders on shipping account and the dressed beef dealers bought moro libcr- erally than for any day this week. Yet natives were 15@25c lower than Monday. UNION STOCK Yxnns , Op. m. ) Thursday , March 1 , 1888. f The receipts of hops continue very light owing to the B. & M. strike , but there was n very decided Increase in cattle receipts to day. The weather , which was rainy and dis agreeable , appeared to rontributo its share toward depressing the marKct , which was lower on all kinds of stock. Cuttle. The receipts were the heaviest this wock , there being about fifty loads on sale. The general quality of the offerings was not very good and there were no choice heavy cattle among the receipts. The market was slow and dragging all day. The buyers wanted to take off 25c from yesterday's prices and salesmen were forced to concede a decline of 1025c. ( The number of cattle which changed hands was not largo as compared with the total . receipts. _ _ _ _ _ 11 OKU. The receipts wore light , although slightly heavier than yesterday. There were a few medium weight hogs of fair quality but the average quality of the receipts was not good , The market was 5@10o lower and closed fully lOc lower. The receipts come in very scat tering and were not all lu until afternoon , which made a dragging market. About every thing was sold before the close , Sheep.
