A Fnlth Minneapolis Journal : ' 'I am a pugi- ist , " remarked a dapper young man as 10 entered the btoro of John Donaldson , , ho woll-known Minneapolis sporting nan , the other clay. "Ah , a prize lighter , oh ? " replied Donaldson , with a suspicious air. "Pardon mo , no. I said I was a pugilist. " "Oh , you arc , arc you. Well , then , I lon't want to talk with you. What wo want in tills country is lower pugilists uid more fighters. I don't think that I lave time to talk to you. " "I suppose that 1 am the greatest riugilist in the world" announced the : lnppcr young man easily , us if ho were making the most commonplace state ments. "Even men who arc much licavior than I am fall victims to mo. " "Ugh ! " grunted the sporting man in i tone of intense disgust. "You notice that I do not talk like other pugilists1 ! Well , my method of fighting is just as tlilTercnt. 1 have never lost a battle. " "You don't look much like a pugilist. You ain't strong enough to whipa lamp post , But niobbo you've got some sciencoV" "You have struck it exactly. I have more science than any man that was cvor in the ring. I am invincible , " an nounced the dapper man in the same quiet tone that he had employed in the former remark. "Who have you mot:1" asked the sport in a tone of greater respect. "That is immaterial. If I told you , you would not believe me. But when you have seen mo light you will not question further. " "Let's sec you strip , " commanded the sport. The greatest fighter on earth did as ho was bid , and the sport hold up his hands in wonder. "You arc the greatest fakol'vo struck lately , " Donaldson announced. "Why , you liavo no more muscle than a clam. " "But did I not toll you that my meth ods were not these of the ordinary prize fightcrV" "Yes , but you said that you had science , and a man who had sparred at all would have more muscle than you have. ' ' "But , my dear sir , you do not under stand. My science is not the vulgar science of the prize ring. I do not de pend upon upper cuts , counters , and cross-counters to win my battles. I have something higher. " "Eh , what ? " ejaculated the sport. "My friend , lam a Christian scientist and h'avo adopted the ring as a profes sion. Therefore I am invincible. Lot mo explain. You know that wo believe that tnoro is no such tiling as pain or illness. It is all imagination. Now do you catch the idea ? Let mo explain further. When I nm in the ring and a man hits mo , I know that it is all imag ination if it hurts. It is all a trick of fancy. Now by bringing my strong will power to bear , I cart overcome the fooling , and the blow will not hurt mo in the least. When I am hit a knock-down blow , I will refuse to bo knocked down , for I know that it is all imagination that makes mo think that I should fall. After I have been in the ring a few times I will not bo conscious of being hit at all. I can turn the feeling aside with a mere effort of will. So you will see that it will bo utterly impossible for any ono to knock mo out. Now , do you not see how just is my claim. " But the sport was too dazed to make n , reply. "But my opponent would not have this advantage , " continued the young man easily , without waiting for an answer. "Ho would not be a Christian scientist. It will bo a long time before pugilists adopt it , although they will eventually , and then prize lighting will come to an end , for then it will bo impossible for one man to knock another out. But until they do I shall bo the greatest fighter in the world , for although they cannot hurt mo I can punish them all that I want to , and knock them out when I please. Well , good day. sir ; I see that you are busy. 111 drop in to-morrow , and then we can arrange a match with Ike Weir , the Spider , " and the young man passed out whistling a merry tune , The Man Who Succeeds is the man who remembers what ho learns.
