If evidence keeps turning up against Hull , the confidence man , he will be quite n dis tinguished personage before very long. In the last issue of the Police Gazette , appears a likeness and description of one Hilly Jack , son , with a dozen aliases. He served time In New Jersey for a $12,000 steal , and has also served n term in Wisconsin. He has been in Jail in nearly every city in the coun try , and has traveled extensively in Europe. The detectives call him one of the shrewdest and most successful criminate that they have ever been after. There Is scarcely any room for doubt us to his identity , and when thu courts of this state are through with him and he. has spent n few years at Ft. Madison , he will not go forth from these with no prospective shelter , for the liberality of Illinois and Minnesota will be shown to him , as they hospitably open the doors of their penitentiaries to re ceive him. He will be well cared for in the future , and every precaution taken to pre vent him from exercising his rure ( nulli fications us u criminal , Ills education and attainments if exercised in proper channels would have won for him u distinction that would not have led lo'hls incarceration in a felon's cell , but would have placed him high among his fellows. Hut such was not the case. The facts nro that the chief of police does netlike like any aspersions on his character either as an nfllccr or u lively rustler , and takes great puins to prevent anything of thu kind. Now thu hot fires kept nt thu citj Jail for the past few days have thawed out several of these summer musicians commonl.\ called flies , and whenever this \untlo ofllcinl Is in the office these insects invariably loost on him. The fact that there sue Ilieu on the boss of the club-wielders is very galling to Jerry's pride , hence he determined to exterminate thu pests , and persuaded the tiforo-nanicd deputy to commence hostilities. Superiority of numbers was with the flies , but science and modem inventions wcro with thu aggressors and the contest was unequal. Thu mandate has been issued , aud out of the city Juil the poor little festive llj must go , that the honor of thu city's police force may remain un tarnished. Strayed. From L. C. Gault. The Apollo Clul ) . Despite the intense cold there was n falr- slml audience at the concert given by the Aixjllo club of Omaha last evening. The treat was a rich one to these who enjoy good music. The club , under the direction of Mr. Young , so rendered their numbers as to call forth the most enthusiastic expressions of approval. The shadlngs and expression wcro the wonderful features of the choruses. Mr. Hrighnm pave three solos , and as usual called forth round after round of nppluusc. Ho was In better voice than on his previous appear ance here , and so more than met the high ex pectations. Mr. Wllklns , who was on the programme for a solo , was unable to bo pres ent. ent.The St. Cecelia Ladies' quartette furnished several mittfbcrs although promising but two , the audience insisting on responses to en cores. ( This Is the first public appearance of this quartette of Council UlufTs sweet singers. The quartette consists of Mrs. Wadsworth , Miss Merkcl , Mrs. ward and Mrs. Evans. This city can certainly take great pride in such a quartette us they proved to bo last evening. Their voices blended perfectly und lost none of their Individual sweetness. The'enjoyabllity of the concert was marred somewhat by the lack of caloric. The house was so cold that the party looked more like u sleighing party than attendants at a con cert. The members of the club lu their full- dreus looked shivery. The stage wus set In a cheerless manner. Not even n carpet , much less a bit of drapery , wus visible. Hare walls , a sort of kitchen scene , In strik ing contrast with the parlor cos tumes of the participants , but perfectly consistent with their frosty breaths. The young man whoso duty it was to tend the fires seemed to think it his special duty to poke the furnace and shovel coal in the midst of the best solo of the evening , the rattling and rasping proving an earnest accompaln- mcnt , though not of high order. It Is to be hoped that the next concert given here may be relieved of some of these accessories and furnished others in their place. Y. M. C. A. Hoard Meet I MR. The first meeting of the board of directors of the Y. M. C. A. wus held last evening be tween the hours of 5 and 0 at the rooms. There wus u full board present.
