The opening is made. Now it remains to bo seen whether Lucy can get into it. Henry Spctman , one of the proprietors of the Kiel hotel , was generously reminded of the presence of the holiday season by being presented with an elegant gold watch by hla partner D. Hoist. Ofllcers came over from Omaha , but found they were not the men they were after , and it now looks as though the fellows were merely a lot of tramps and "dead broke' ! cripples. Several witnesses were examined on both sides , but the case was not Mulshed , and will bo continued this morning. The evidence fulled to prove them drunk , and the re mainder of the trial will be upon the other charge. ' Ono point dwelt upon by Mr. Llndt was that the fact of the parties walking down street arm in arm was no proof that they wore full , as lie and his partner Mr. Mynster very frequently walked that way. When the witness on the stand told him that the defendants were fuller than the lawyers generally were , Mr. Llndt seemed to Igso all hope In his case , for the assertion was ac cepted by the court as quite conclusive. The bark Scotland , Captain William Munro , from Liverpool to Now York , stranded hero nt about 10 o'clock last evening , says a dispatch from Sea Girt , N. J. , to the Now York World. During ths voyage an event happened which the sailors said was a sure portent of disas ter , and the result fully justified their fears. When about fifteen days out , and about eight hundred miles from shore , while the crew of twenty me.i were sitting at dinner , they were some what startled by the sudden appearance of a Hock of seven crows , which flow in through the open window and surrounded the table and began devour ing the food which had been set out for the men. The bailers as soon us they saw the crows got up and loft the table saying they had had enough although they had hardly oaten a mouthful. They all seemed to bo stricken with fear and from that dny on wont about their work with a sullen look , as though they apprehended some danger. Aftei that , when they sat down to thoii meals they would in varibly close theii windows and cabin doors so as to pre vent the recurrence of the omen. Among those on board at the time was a young woman from Whitestono , L. I Mary Seymour who had accompanied the daughter of the captain upon the trip. "I am not of a superstitious nature , " said Miss Seymour to a re porter this evening , ' 'but when I saw tlioso crows alight on the table , I was stricken with horror. I have heard ant read so much about the ill luck whicl follows the visits of such birds' that J immediately' felt that something was going to happen. I told Miss Munro the captain's daughterof myfcolingsbul she laughed at mo and oven went so fiu as to catch ono of the birds ant keep it in the cabin for some days. . ' feel satisfied that the crow did not like the idea of Munro keeping the bird or board , but they all thought so much o her that they did not say anything and they all heaved a sigh of relic when the crow died and was throwi overboard. But little was said fron that clay on , and wo somehow had for gotten the occurrence until last nigh when the storm set in. None of the men or myself said anything , but I know that the fear again seized us , and und wo looked for something unfortun ate. ate."At "At 8 o'clock when Captain Munro came into the cabin nnd informed us that by morning we would bo in Now York harbor I heaved a sigh of relief. About half an hour later I was bome- what startled by hearing the mute qull to ana of the men to heave the lead fo ascertain the depth of water. I ascended to the deck nud found n ( orri- blo storm raging. I immediately went below and hardly hnd'I'glned / the uido of Mins Munro when I lizard Something ennp , nnd , soon after that wo were grating upon the bar nnd I know the omen had como true nnd wo were wrecked. The captain , who hnd now gene on deck soon re turned and told us wcht\d stranded on the Jersey coast. TliOibopm hnd broken and had fallen upon the 'wheel , thereby rendering it useless for a time. Al though Captain Munro tpld us that a crow of life-buvers were on shore to render us help at any time should wo desire it. I could not sleep , as I could not drive the thought of the birds from my mind , nnd it was n welcome sight when dny broke and the men on shore rigged the breeches buoy and took use o the ill-fated boat. " The Scotland is of about fifteen ton , burden and loaded with soda ash and empty barrels. Patrolman Bowditch Pcurco , of station No. 9 , left his station nt 8 o'clock last night , after being on midnight watch. The wind was then plowing from the north and the air was Illlcd with snow. He had made his way about half over his patrol when the Scotland was discovered , tossed by the surf on the outer bar. The -crew at the station house was notified and n huge bongre built on the shore near the wreck , for the night was n bitter ono. The nppnratus for the station was immediately hauled to the scene of disaster , nnd n shot fired that carrion a line over the ship. She ship wrecked murinors were in no danger , however , nnd it was not until day light that the breeches buoy was put in operation. The mate of the ship and n sailor were then hauled ashore. The remainder of the crew , twenty in all , remained on the vessel. Miss Munro and Miss Mary Sey mour were taken oil in the breeches buoy during the day. The young ladies manifested much belf-conlldonco when being hauled ashore in the breeches buoy. They stood the ga/.c of the im mense crowd on the beech with com posure. The Scotland is thirty-three : lnys out from Liverpool , bound for New York. The captain reports good weather during the passage. FURNITURE ! We are now prepared for the HOLIDAY TRADE !
