' A KiTiioh I'Vinnlc Mason. i Well-read Masons are familiar with the story of Mrs. Aldworth , the only female ad milted Into the mysteries of Freemasonry according to the York rite , says the Masonic Chronicle , nnd we now find that Franco can boast of another lady brother , duly initiatcti In a regularly constituted lodge. Madame do Xulnfralllos , wife of the general of the same inline , served us his uido-de-c.imp with such valor us to receive from Bonaparte , when first consul , u commission as major of cavalry. The Lodge des Ai tistes , having announced the holding of u ledge of adoption , Madame do XumtrallloH received an invitation to be initiated as u womun. In those cases it was customary for the brethren to open and close their ledge before admission of the ladies. While the ledge was in session , the master was informed iif to tbero being a superior officer in full uni form in the unto-chumber , presumptively as a visitor. The export inquired as to whether the stranger possessed u diploma , where ; upon the latter handed him the military coia mission. It was read in astonishmentwhere upon Cuveller , the master , a veteran of the army , proposed that , In view of her military services , Madame do Xaintrullles should be Initiated into Masonry , as a man , should sh BO desire. Her answer was ; "I have been a man for my country , and will bo one for my brothers. " She submitted to the ordeal , modified us the emergency demanded , und was proclaimed in her Masonic capacity , so that upon opening the ledge of adoption , the heroine preserved her place among th ( brethren. IN nnrcitwxcj to "mixed funerals" Grand Master Durrnh said In his address to th Grand Ledge that "a Masonic processibi : should be styled und guarded us much us a Lodge ut labor no one being permitted t ( olther enter or retire from it without per mission from the W. M. No Mason wouli think of admitting n profane to visit a lodg while at labor , much less permit ono to taku part in the ceremonies of conferring u do groe. Yet a ledge would have as mucl : right , legally , to admit u profane to visit us il would to admit him within u Masonic pro cession. " Ix A recent address P. G. M. Congdon , o New Jersey , said : "Mini's greatest need 01 i-nrth is friendship , constant , true und hel | : ful , Masonry multiplies friendships. Th ijimllty of sweet friendship , like that of he sister , mercy. Is not strained. II blesses him who gives and him who takes , und so on to the end. l.ct our aim and efforts over bo to establish and maintain true und abiding friendships , and life will teem with richer blessings. " t A I.ODOK medical director , in tlip St. Louis Globe-Democrat , says : "I feel it my duty to say of an examiner who rt-commpnds for lodgo' membership u man who dies within two years of admission of consumption ( un less that disease follows u severe injury oren on attack of some acute disease ) , that it is evident hn bus not given sufficient attention to the examination of the applicant , and his horvlces us mt'dlcul examiner should bo dis continued. Every doctor of experience and learning Miould recognl/o in persons disposed to consumption or tuberculosis appearances present in cases years before the disease de velops itself as follows : Long eyelids : a pale face ; very sensitive , nnd coughing for slight causes ; thin , slender hands , with club- ended fingers and curved nails shurply de fined ; red lines of the gums , and when the body is imulo bare there will bo found great 1 leanness of the chest ; hollowncss of the sub- 1I I clavicular depressions ; prominence of the Bcapulus ; xmullnuxH of the posterior-anterior diameter of the chest , and unusual width of the Inter-costal spaces.
