During curly trading the price fell at one time to 84ic } , but the buying was good enough to cuuso u steady Improvement from this point , and the top of tills wave wus readied at 8T e. There appeared to be an ocean of wheat for sulo at that figure , and there wcro but few transactions there. Then the price sugged to 8IJ e , and lingered there for some time , but within llvo minutes of 1 o'clock rloso Jumped to S4X < - . January wheat opened nt 77j4e , sold between 77 (3ii7Jfe ( , and 7S'tfe ' , und closed nt < Tc. Corn was strong and higher. Tncro are noino features of the situation from which the corn bulls derive great comfort. Ono of them Is the fact that large .shipments have recently been made from hero to various places in Ohio , southern Illinois and other points which do not usually call upon Chicago for corn. Very moderate receipts continue. and their character and the direction from which they eonio are studied. May opened W < J'-ifo higher this morning than last night's closing price , nt i > \e \ , and January J < ; e Higher , nt 47' ' < e. The strength of the market was developed late in the session , although there was no considerable decline or weak ness nt any time. During early trading prices fell off to 4lJ ( < ( ( ? 47c for January , and to filj.0 . for May. The purchases of ono heavy local trader hero sent prices up until May reached 52 > c , and in that vicinity the market lingered for an hour or more , but within llvo minutes of the close of the session some trader began Imying heavily again and awakened the apprehension i of some short sellers , whereupon the price advanced rapidly to fill e and closed there at 1 o'clock. January also closed nt the highest point , which was 47Jfc. an ndvanco over last night's i-loso of l'stfU ; ' u for Muy and of IJfc for January. From thu start the bull side was by fur the attraction , and under the lead of lurd , which Was largely controlled by promi nent packing Institutions , the entire line of the product hud but ono tendency and that in favor of sellers. In connection with the influences exerted by lard , the market was also affected fuvorably by , the improvement in cereals , mainly corn , mid the continued moderate marketing'of hogs. It was simply a bull day , both in action and otherwise , and , as compared with last night's closings , pork ut 1 o'clock showed an appreciation of 15@ 'MC , lard of 22J c , and short ribs of 25c. Thu lowest prices quoted prevailed at or imme diately following io opening and the highest till-around as the bell sounded adjournment. Trading was also more than ordinarily ani mated , with the interest exhibited confined to January and subsequent months. For Jan uary pork sold from $14. 50 up to $14.80 , lard from * 7.17Ji up to $7.52 } , and short ribs from J7.10up to $7.07' ; ? , the closing for all three articles being nt outside prices.
