Cnit'\fo ! , Nov. 2'J. [ Special Telegram to
the Hi t..l The wheat maiket was wenk tills
inoi nlng. It opened lower than It closed lust
night and Immediately begun to drop still
f Hither , but later n reaction cnt prices ubovo
the opening nnd still later them wan u par
tial loss of this advance and as n icsult of the
morning trading prices at the close were Just
about the sumo as ut the opening. In May ,
the most netHo delivery , the entlic fluctua
tion of the moinlng amounted to Jfc , the
other dcllvcilcH moving within somewhat
narrower limits. Dei ember w heat opened ut
7io ! iiml May at S.io and piesently the market
sagged until December sold at Tnj T.V e ,
January at Tlij/i1 and May nt b'2c. Thcso
w ei e the low est pi Ices of thu session. As an
offset to thu bc.nish foiclgn news there came
report H of the taking of ten boatloads at New
Yoik by exporters and u lai go part of this
was said to bo for Lisbon. New York e\-
poits to that poit ate not uncommon , but the
fm.t that our wheat was wanted Ihcio at this
time seemed to give bujers some couiage.
Occasional bujing ouleis came lu fiom all
points and commission houses weie said to
be bujing quite genet ally for New
Yoik unit St. Louis account. The
mr.iket at neither of those points seemed
to show any weakness and the earlvselleis
licio beiamo bnjcis , theiesult being fo send
prici s along up until December sold at 7iJf ! , i' ,
January at T iX ' nml May nt Nttfc. The ex
treme top ] ) tices weie not long maintained.
The most aiti\o trading nnd h.iidcst fight
was when May wheat stood in the neighbor
hood of Sll'/e. ' It icsted tbcio foi some time ,
but was hammered down to ! ? JJ < o and lestcu

Theio was heavy pulling in coin early ,
nniihof it believed to bo leali/ingon gtuin
bought at consideiably lower llguies , but n
fair amount of it was set down as shoi t hell
ing. Thuiesultof this selling was to send
ju ices dow n about J e for the most nctivo de
liveries. Thine appeal eel to bo no news
nffei ting values , and the drop was ciedited
to the desire of some heavy opeiatois to ic-
nli/e piotUs , and to the belief of others that
lifter no good nn ndanee n reaction was sure
to follow. December and January opened at
4i ( ) c , May at file , and under the fieo offer
ings noted Dec-ember sold down to 4lc ! , Janu-
tiry Ut 4li' ' e , and May to 50Jfc. Then an im
provement began and continued steadily until
December touchc-d 40 ? < c , Januaiy4To and

bi lolly helil , the I o'clock closing being at
4J ( o for December , 4(1 ( 0 for Januaiy and
61 > 4'o for Mav.
Oats for May dclivciy opened on a level
with Mondaj's closing figures. Tree icalix-
Ing sales caused the maiket to weaken and
the dec-line was not ctTcctuallj checked until
! iJ.VL ( < ! > v' ' e was touched. 'Then theio was n

was done in near futuies. November sold

Thoiecent advance in the price of coal is
due to two facts. Fust , an increase in de
mand. The west is beioming settled verj *
rapidly and the demand for coal has in
creased one-third in two jems. Second , u
failure on the part of laihoads to provide
cms in which to ship coal. A BEE lepoitcr
was informed jcsttidav that oideis sent in
last Juno were not jet tilled on this account.
