The Movement in 1'rovNloiiRSome - \vmt Irri'KtiliirThe lloj * Trade Active nt an Advance ( Jen- oral QtiotntioiiH. CHICAGO l lir > l > tCK : MA UK LIT. CHICAGO , Nov. 2' , ' . [ Spvclul Tch-Rrmn to the Hnr..l The wliuut nmrkct , was active to day , anil tlicro was a KOod volunio of busi ness , but that portion of It which came from outshlo customers was but imxlorate. Tlio local feeling was the eliluf inllucuco and tin clement of four appeared to bo prominent. Two or three of the heavier local traders are known to have bought very hugely of May delivery , and the icnmindcr of the local crowd seemed to be constantly apprehensive lest this wheat bo unloaded on them. The market was theusfore extremely sensitive , find when a fluctuation either way passed J < e. it was likely to prow to > o lib gieat speed. However , at So ! for May delivery there was always strong supjiort and a quick reaction from about that Jlgurc. The opening was at an advance over hist night's closing at t ( ' > ? { o for December , TJe ( for January and bll' ' o May , and the llrst impulkij was upward , duo apparently to cables , which quoted an up ward tendency for wheat in Liverpool. De cember reached " ( JXc , January T e and May saX < ? - fbis temper of the local traders was bearish , however , and with the appre hension above mentioned constantly with them they ran prices down again , December touching 7 < i'.fe ' , January ( ! . ? and May SUe. With a shade narrower fluctuations thi operation was repeated , the lastand qulckests movement being near tlio cloto , when May wheat advanced from blir sn' e to W1V , fell to b.'l.'fc ' ; and advanced to bll'fc ' , which was the 1 o'clock close , nt exactly the opening prices. Other deliveries closely follow the fortunes of May , the close of the morning hession being at Hi,1 je for December and "To bid for January. The corn market was less active tbnn of late and the Helling of a large amount of long grain caused a drop of ' c in the price ut one time. There was only a moderate business in cash row and prices ruled somewhat lower than yrsti-rday. One of the weakening features of the imirket is the prospector lower freight rates from Missouri river points , which will stimulate shipments niul increase receipts here. The leceipts today , however , were but -I ! * ! cars about ! ? ( ) cars less than the estimato--and the estimate for to-morrow is _ . " > ( ) ears. Sympathy with wheat Is given as a reason for the strength in the speculative corn market. The opening prices were tt'4ff ' ( lt\c for December , 41' ' ,0 < 4-1 % e for Jajmar.\ and lc ! ) for May. With the ex ception ot January delivery , which sold Im mediately after the opening at 4t , ° c straight , these were the highest prices of the day. December sold down to : % @ - : ? , January to-ll'jjftfll. ' ! . ! and May to 4b > jC , and during most of the session prices ruled lower than at the opening. Shoitly before the close , however , there was an advance to about the opening llgnres and the 1 o'clock closing was at MJjJr for December , l4i1B@4l i' ( ! for Janu ary and 4S % ( I'.lc ' for May. Oats were moderately active and linn in the speculative market and a little squee/o in November Is apparent. That future was offered very sparingly and closed at274'ebid ( , or "ftc higher. December sold from -7J4C to 27'V and a few trades were made in January at _ 7'L ' % both closing on the split at740 ! § 'J7\e at 1 o'clock. May , the leading future , opened at 'lOJ H.Ile together , touched : > Xe , then improved to ill ' ( Jo and closed at Die , or the same as yesterday. In provisions the movement was somewhat irregular. Trade as a rule appeared to have the supjiort of a good strong undertone , but Iho realising of parties , generally small holders , who had profit in recent purchases , kept the supply of property ample and made prices subject to frequent change's. Trading , however , was quite active and two of the largest sales reported so far this season occurred. One round lot of JXX ( ) ( ) liarrels of pork for January and a single lot of 4XK ( ) tierces of lard for May were sold. The pork brought $ M. < X ) and the lard $0.37 ! ; . The day's market recovered in a measure from yesterday's depression at the afternoon ses sion and at 1 o'clock showed an actual ad vance of 15o on pork and i ! > c on lard and ehoi-t ribs , AFTKIINOOX Snssiox Wheat lower ; May f3Xl'i December 7k' ( , January 7l(3 ( ( | ( > 7l,6 ( c and Pebiuary at 77c.
