Corn Trading of 1'ulr Volume nml nt r 1'rlccH Tlic Hiiiiply of CuttlC iMtKK OlMHTIll CHICAGO PHOIU7CK .MAHKKT. CniCAdo , Xov. 21. ( Special Telegram to the UuK.l It was a bull day In the grain market. The outside- news of most 1m- portanco came from the winter wheat sections , where continued tin- weather , with hcvore cold , wcro said to bo mining the young plant beyond ixmlblllty of recovery. The effect of these reports was seen in buyIng - Ing orders from St. Louis and other western and southern ] Kints. Xcw York was also a good buyer here , and in fact thu buying came from nearly every direction. Some of the Bulling was , however , said to bo for account of the northwest. Tlio increase in the visible supply of 1,1)18,000 bushels was rather greater than was expected , but its effect was scarcely felt. The opening price of May wheat was 82 , ' o , nnd in the llrsttrading thcro were some sales at b'-'c , but almost from the first the tendency was upward and the price advanced to SilJ.fi1 , fell to bic ! , advanced to 6'l-4o ! again , fell to Mcand then advanced to 8.'l > 4e and rested at Me at the 1 o'clock clos ing. December opened at 76c , sold down to T'K'V'I' ' ' to 70J < c and closed ut7i'i'c. January opened at7i > JiC , which was the low point for that delivery , sold up to and closed at Speculation in corn was not so active nor In nearly so largo a volume as in wheat. Yet there was a fair business donu at higher prices than ruled Saturday. The strength in this market was alinostunlvcrsally attributed to sympathy with wheat. Receipts hero were 4117 cars , when IMH ) cars only were expected und the estimate is for 620 cars to-morrow. The selling appeared to bo largely done on this showing of increased receipts , but there were enough believers cin grain to prevent any decline in prices. Tlio demand for cash corn was a llttlo better than on Saturday , but it is much restricted bec.itise of tlio lack of vessel room. The opening was at for December , 41 l < , c for .lanimry and for May , and except for May , which sold im mediately after the opening at 4bl o , these were the lowest prices of the day. December sold up to 44HC : | , January I IJ < 0(4J o and May to 4l' ! ' < (3 ( ! ' ! . There was an oaslngoff towards the close of the morning session , however , and December rested ut 440c ' , January at 44J , < fo and May nt4'.i ( ! < li's ! ' e. There was a more active and stionger mar ket for o.its , Speculative trailing , as noticed last week , was almost exclusively in seller May. That future opened at llO OJliO fo on the split , which was Saturday's closing price , and sold up in sympathy with the advance in other articles to Itlc , closing at thu top at 1 o'clock. February sold sparingly at 27'4c. ' Xovember was nominal at 27 0 , December at 27c ami January at 27'ne. ' The provision trade opened wiTll it bullish turn. Encouraged by the advance In wheat and corn and the prospect of more restricted receipts of hogs this week on account of Thanksgiving , trade acted with gieat conll- dence. Hased on Saturday's closing , 1 o'clock quotations showed an actual advance of 82' e on pork , 100il5o on lard and 12 , ' c on short ribs. Armi.soox Si : sio.v. Coal stock were stronger and higher , , with advances extend ing to 1 point. The rest of the active seeu rlties , especially Grangers , were weaker uu lower , with declines ranging down to 1 point The strength in Coalers was nttributablo to the efforts of the bull leaders to hold th market up to sell. This belief was Incrciisct as the market was well tilled with stocks London , too , came In lower , but foreigi houses traded lightly and from the tone o brokers jvcro more disposed to sell than buy its they waul a reaction of 1 to 2 points t < buy on. lioom traders were bullish , bu operated cautiously , feariug a manipulatioi of the money market , which is said to bi w ithlii the power of the big bears. St. Pan was sold heavily by the old bear party , S. V White selling 5,000shares. News was scarce and values were Inllucncod almost entirely ' on the operations of big trades.
