ISpccJalTelegram to the URB. ] The fact which assumed largo projior- tlons In the eyes of the western speculators this morning was the fall of rain In the drought-cursed winter wheat region imd Its favorable Influence upon new sown grain. Yesterday's vacation had made only a. slight variation In prices , the opening this morning being but a trifle lower than the closing Monday. First sales of December were nt 73'ifcnndof MnyntTSJfc. Underrathcr liberal offering for St. Louis account there almost Immediately followed n lifeline to 72Jsi < 7o ! ! for December ami to ; $ efor May. This was the low point of the session. The first advance was reported from lialtlmoro imd the .European situation was given as the cause for it. The New York market wac also strong and higher and it was reported that Henry Clews was a heavy buyer there nnd also In this market. There seemed to bo n change of sentiment in thn pit and prices advanced to "SjVf&'JJIJjC for December nnd 79@7Utj'c for May , with occasional slight re- tuitions on the way up. The market appeared strong during all Urn latter part of the ses filon and closed at ill' t1 for December am' 70 for May. There was a fair amount ol business done , but ijniutli and without mucl excitement. Lower freight rates and iTMilting brlsli demand for cash corn to-day gave strcngtl to the speculative market and a uain of kC ? Jfc was scored on tic ; trading of the morning session. The opening wan about at t lie clos ing figures of Monday , or at 41o for Decem ber and January and 4Xe for May. The.so were the lowest prices of the session and from them the market advanced toll' ' col December anil January and to 45\c for May There was a very slight reaction in the uioro uctivc futures before the rlose , which was at 4\k \ f4\Xc \ for December , } } { for .Ton imry and 45 > . Cash and November corn closed at 4\ \ } { ( < i4\a. \ Speculative trading In oats was at very low ebb to-day nnd fluctuations were trilling , the result of the day's business being u very Blight advance in prices. Oats for May delivery opened at /20c ! and the only price * were 29. } ftjf'JU'ji ! on the split nnd 2'JX straight , the Inttcr price being the close. November opened at 25Ve and sold up to and closed at 25 'e. In provisions n strong market was wit nessed. No particular activity was exhibited , but the falling off In the receipts of hogs us compared with last week made traders act und feel more confident , and with less dlsio- | Mllon to sell prices showed a tendency to rule higher. Eighteen loads of hogs brought the top tirice yesterday. George Varnes , of Missouri Valley , mar keted two loads of hogs yesterday. Armour's New house killed 1010 hogs yes terday. I'rctty good starter , isn't it. J. A. Vandruff , of Uradshnw , Neb. , sold a load of heavy hogs on the market yesterday. J. M. Barrett , of Malvern , la. , sold n load of hogs for $4.40 and started homeward after more. The presence of Armour's buyer on the hog inarUet had u very stimulating effect upon prices. Cameron & Wapncr of Hampton , brought in n carload of llvn pork yesterday which sold for the highest price , $4.40. Ed Morrisey , of Kuby , Neb. , came In with a load of hops early yesterday. They were sold in three minutes schedule time. For mouths past the opening of Armour's packing house has been looked forward to by live stock men with a great deal of eager ness. At lust the time has arrived and the house has been opened under auspicious cir cumstances. The increased demand must , of necessity , caused a marked improvement in the hog market , for which Armour will re ceive the credit. At the same ttmo live stock men must not bo entirely ungrateful for what the other packers have done for the market. During the past summer the Anglo- American Packing company have practically Imd their own way with the market , and nu merous complaints have been made against them for holding the mar ket down. No doubt they did squeeze the shippers at times , but only did what any other packer would do under the same opportunity. On the other hand "tho Anglo" has been n great help to the market , and thus far has done moro than any other packer toward making a market here. Hut competition is required to build up a market und the coining of Armour has supplied the necessary factor. OMAHA WHOLKSAhE MARKETS. Produce , Fruits , Etc.
