[ Special Telegram to IhoHp.K. ] The opening in wheat was frac tionally below Saturday's close at 73c for December and 7bc for May. The expecta tion of u large Increase In the visible supply caused prices to full off to 72Jf for December nnd 78XG"8n'e for May , but there were very few transactions ut the Inside figures. A rungo of ) fo In the May delivery and of & @ 'f In the December deliver wus all that was offered to the corn traders to-dav. Trading wo * limited , in a speculative wny.niid the result of the rmorning session's business was to leave prices exactly where they were at the opening. Receipts here were 201 cars , which wiis twenty-four curs less than 1-xpccU'd. Tlio estimate for to-morrow is 020 i-ars. The decrease in the visible supply was 7MK)0 ( ) bushels , but this fact , which might have been expected tpbo a strcngthcn-ug fea ture , did not affect the market. Dcrombtir corn opened at 41c , sold at 41@ 4ic and at 40 0 nnd closed at 41c. May opened nt 45) ) c and fluctuated between these prices and 4r > c , closing ut 4'ii'c. ) There was ruthcr more business done in n speculative way In outs than during the lat ter part of the week , but changes in prices were inslgniilciint. The bulk of the trading wus In May ut2'J ) < if72iS ( ! < e , with some trans actions at 2U)4e ) , und November delivery sold sparingly at 2.1X nnd 25'c. At' the hturt prices showed u wnall improvement on Saturday's closing , but us the day advanced tlio feeling became easier und on January , February and May pork an actual decline of " ' j(3-rC ( occurred. Lard and short ribs closed practically unchanged. Trading was slow. January was again the pivotal delivery. [ Special Telegram to the UBK. ] CATTI.I : liusincss was in bettor shape for salesmen. They nskcd about lOc advance , though some of the buyers thought the sudden and unexpected decrease In ro- celpls was somehow accidental. At any rate , the buyers who did not have very urgent orders held off nnd bought no more than they were obliged to. Common to fair cattle were slow of sale at barely steady prices. The good to ehoico fat cattle of all weights were in fair demand ut strong prices. Of range cattli ) there were I , $00 westerns nnd 1,200 Texans and Indian cattle. The market was moderately active. Good cattle were u shade higher and there was u better feel ing around , without much change in prices. Nnw YOIIK , Nov. 7. [ Special Telegram to the BISK ] STOCKS The stock market exhib ited more than the usual degree of stubborn ness , and although trading wus moderate the general feeling was stronger and prices aver aged higher. The opening wus rather quiet nnd tame , with fractional declines on several of the most nctivo stocks , especially the Grangers. The latter were sold freely on re- jHirts that the St. Paul nnd Northwestern roads hud notllled Commissioner Furtham that they intended making the same proportionate tionate rate on western trufllu that the Chicago cage , Burlington ft Quincy was making on Minneapolis grain business. That is , they would make u 0 cent rate from Oinulm to compete with the 7)4 cent ruto of the Chicago cage , Uurllngton & Quinuy from Minneapolis. This induced the bears to sell the Grangers on the belief that the notice was only a fore runner of a general demoralization of freight ThClr selling produced a decline of )4 ' per cent , but after they stopped a reac tion followed. The VandorblltB and Heading were the strongest properties on the list und were the chief support to the market , dd- vuncing 1@1 4 P ° r cent on rcK | > rts of in creased business and good supjiort by insid ers. Missouri I'acille was irregular , selling off % earlyonnd then rallying 1 % per cent. GOVKUNMESTS Government bonds were dull but steady. YKbTKltlUT'S QUOTATIONS. II. B. 4s coupon ! ! % U.
