Dealing In Ornln. .At the session of the open board of trade , yesterday , Mr. White , of Phtltsmouth , nnd several others were present. Thirty- three and a quarter cents were bid for Oc tober wheat. Mr. White succeeded in sellIng - Ing 5,000 bunhulsof Nnvctnbcr corn to Mr. I'cck ut mc. that being a reduction of one- half cent off the prlco originally asked. Several other deals of an un- linMrtant | nature wcro made. The board convenes again to-day at 11 : 'M n. in. CHICAGO ruonuci : MAKKIW. CHICAGO , Oct. 24. [ Special Telegram to the BKH. ] Trading In wheat was upon the basis of thu visible supply statement llrst upon guesses ns to what it would be , and later upon the actual ilgurcs. First reports from New Yolk and Mlnncapolln mmlu It up- pear that the Increase would ho larger than expected Saturday and the tnlk was of 1MXIXX ) , > bushels , or thereabouts , and tins re sult was weakness. Later , when un actual increase of 1,0 , " > 7,0 < X ) bushels became known , there was a reaction to alxmt the opening figures , but UIKHI a lack of outside buying orders , prices fell away again and the closing was at the low | < olnt for the session. There was a good buying of December early for St. Louis account , under which that delivery ad vanced } { c , but other futures did not follow , May , which opened at TSj e , only reaching < W@"We the highest ] x > lnt. There ai > - | > cared to be abundant demand early for May wheat at about 78 } c , and offerings at that figure during the first part of the ses sion were very readily absorbed. The opening was at Saturday's closing Ilgurcs 7k ! ! for December and 78 < c for May. De cember sold up to THJ c and down to 72J4e , where it closed. May sold up to 78X < 378 > 4'c , down to 7878J e and closed at that llgure. There was news enough for the corn trad ers to-day , but it appeared to have very slight effect , The volume of business was exceedingly small and the pit was almost de serted during much of the session. The vis ible supply statement was an undoubted sur prise. An increase of about 500,000 bushels had been looked for , but when an actual de- crcasu of 1218,000 bushels was announced the only effect visible was an advance in pi ices of about ' ( 'e. The entire range of prices here was but ife. December ojKnied at 40Xc , advanced to 41e , sold down to 40 'c and closed at 4Iu asked. May opened at 44e , which was also thu highest point touched , sold down to 44. ? ! and closed at 44J4 ( < J I4j u. Oats in the speculative market were very quiet to-day , the limited business transacted being confined almost entirely to May , which was-steady until near the close , 1 o'clock bids being % a above Saturday's closing. Near futures were without material change , though seller the month sold off ' 4c tooo. . In provisions the week's opening failed to give any promise of increased activity. Early in the day there was a little movement In a speculative way , but the ilrinncss of sellers rather curtailed trading and as the day advanced the old dullness returned. Traders were inclined to regard the market with a conservative leaning and acted as If they believed prices too high nnd the feeling too strong to awaken much life in the line of speculation. Based on Saturday's closings January pork at 1 o'clock showed un advance of 10c , the different deliveries of lard of 2J e and January short ribs of 2J < fc. January the trading future sold at (12.10 @ 12.17J < for pork , | 0.23X@ .25 for lard and * 0.1 ! > < 30.17Jf for short ribs. Trade moved along quietly and steadily , with little or no varia tion in values as compared with the close of last week. Some salesmen who had natives that exactly suited the buyer and the buyer really wanted the stock , got a slight ad vance , but the average sales of natives showed no particular change. Also , sales men that had nice and handy little Texans claimed they were getting a little more money for their stock. Big Texans and rangers sol-4 about the same as at the close lust week. Native butchers' stock sold as low as at any time , with bulls quoted 10@15c lower. There was little or nothing doing in the stacker and feeder lines. Cuttle that were carried over from Saturday had a pinched and famished look after standing through thu severe ruin and snow storm of Saturday night and Sunday. With stockcrs uppcurunccs oftentimes makes the sale. The few fresh cattle were bought by yard speculators , as there were but few countrymen present. Jlotis The comparatively light run was a genuine surprise and had the effect of getting buyers out promptly and some of the late ones had to hustle to get what they wanted. As to prices , there was little or no variation when compared with the opening of Satur day. Parties that hud to carry over their stock claimed they got 5@10o more than was bid Saturday nt the close. The bulls appeared to bo well organized , but were doing little talking for publication. They ro- 1 garded the easy money market as a good thing In their favor , but were not Inclined to purchase stocks heavily. The bears wore en couraged by the comparative ease with which prices declined Saturday and the impression prevailed that the rally had expended Its force and that there was not sufficient short Interest of investment buying to supjiort the market. London was a fair seller of St , Paul , Union Pacific , nnd Iteadlng. The bears , headed by Cammack and Batcmnn , sold freely , although the market was dull mid dragging and a weak undercurrent was noticeable. The market opened quiet , with declines extending to Jf percent.
