dreams about her. She had married a
commonplace man who had never fed

When she got homo the next day she
answered her husband's inquiries about

regrets and misgivings.

in turn , both younger and older than ho

Uaroni'e manner was conceded to' stand

girl. She had risen from her chair at her
sister's abrupt entrance. Her transpar
ent skin had a flush through its fairness.
Her eyes were brilliant , alive. She stood
and held Mrs. Hazlcton's hands and
stooped and kissed her again , and smiled
at her.
"You look so well that you frlghlen
mo , " replied hlsie , not removing her
eyes from the beautiful ro-vltalized
countenance shining down upon her.
"Why didn't you write mot"

"Yes. Hut how was I to imagine that
four weeks would work such a miracle ! "
"It is it miracle , " said Audrey , drop
ping the hands she hold and moving
away a little.
A knock came at the door and Mrs.
llazleton , who.had not yet seated herself
and who stood nearest it , put her hand
on the knob. A bell boy stood in the

They were n note , a book and a cluster
of long stemmed roses. Something in
ho way Audrey received these things

She dropped at last into a chair
breathing a little quickly.
"Aren't vou going to read your notof"

seen there before had deepened in the
soft oval of the cheeks.
Miss Huzleton took the note up , drop

The two women were looking ot each
other now. Then suddenly the taller
and fairer ono crossed the apace between
them , and sinking down on her knees
beside the low chair laid her head against
the other's arm.
"Audrey1 ! whispered Mrs. Hazloton ,
.n a thrilled voice , and clasping her
trembling hands clnsc , "has it come to
you ? Is there any ono ? "
Audrey raised her face and smiled
nto the anxious , radiant , tearful , joyful
ono bent breathlessly over her.
"What a dear little soul you are , Elsie ,
nnd how unreasonably fond yon have
always been of met" she laughed in
purelightness of heart. Mrs. llazleton
could only gaze at her in a wonder and
rapture that would not cease. "I don't
think I have ever deserved it. Hut now ,
perhaps , everything will bo tlillerent.
Oh , 1 am happy , Elsie , i am happy I And
you don't ask mo who hoisfsho laughed
again.
'I am sure that he is the best that a
man can bo if you care for him , " Mrs.
Hazloton replied.
Hut , somehow , acurious chilled feeling
was creeping over her. She had always
thought it would bo the greatest of joys
to have Audrey really love some one.

at last. And her little sister-in-law put
her arms softly about her and kissed her

'If happiness has come to vou , Audrey ,
it will bo my greatest joy , as well.1
Mrs. Nazieton's first glance at Haroni
was disappointing. Hut ho had not
spojccn ten words to her before the little
woman was also under the spell.
"You have bewitched us. " she said to
him naively when he urged that hib mar
riage and Audrey's might not be de
layed. " 1 suppose it shall bo as you say.

quickly. " 1 cannot bring myself to think
of her as otherwise than she has been

That evening as she sat with Audrey she
asked :
"Has there been any particular grief
any episode of particular sadness in Dr.

Audrey's face clouded.
"Thoro has been something yes. Just

I have perfect confidence. He said lie

Mrs. llazlcton sighed. She wondered
a little perhaps if she could have emu
lated her sister's faith. She had always
thought Audrey like no other woman.
She was conscious now ot looking up to
her moro than ever.
It was at Mrs. Hazlcton's borne , nnd
