Texan * and range cattle are BO low that It would seem there was hardly a show for the same to go lower , yet such was the belief of fair and conservative salesmen. A fuw lots of fancy heavy steers sold at $1.1)3(35.10 ) ( , and one lot that averaged about 1703 Ins. at 35.30. It Is estimated thnt 3,000 to 4,000 Texans wore old since Monday under SJ.OO per ICO IDS. < * t Is also estimated that 4.000 to 5,000 range cattle In the same time hold within a range of 8i2. ' @irx ) , but few out ot many thousands marketed making 93.00 per too IN. A few lots of stockers change hands from day to day , but there IH really no Ufa In trade. Native feeders arn not wanted. FINAMJIAU NKW YORK , Oct. 5. | SpeciaiTeleer.im to the BKK. ] STOCKS The opening of the stock market was generally strong this morn- In ? , most stocks showing an advance over yesterday's llnal tlgurc.s from , ' < to Yt per cent This advantage was increased In a few Instances , but prices became weak al most Immediately find Lackawanna , which sold ox-dividend nf 1 % per cent , quickly lost 1 # , He.idlnir % and others from } to } i per cent. These losses , exceut In Lackawaunn and Heading , wore generally recovered and Jater tlio list again became weak. At 11 o'clock the market was quiet and gen orally iirm after the rally which brought prices nearly up to those of the opening. Half a dozen stocks Western Union , St. 1'aul , Heading , Lttckawunna , Northwestern and lliJhmond and West 1'olnt contributed about three-fourths of the total business done , the remainder being dull and feature , less throughout. The stock market became Intensely dull for everything except St. Paul and Western Union after 11 o'clock and while dealings were devoid of features of any Kind , prices remained steady to firm , alight gains being made in some leading stocks. Toward thu end of the tirst hour- however , Northern Pacific preferred devel oped a sudden weakness and dropped 1 % per cent , the general list sympathizing to a limited extent. There was a heavy falling oft In the re ceipt * of cattle to-day , there being only thirty-one loads as against titty-eUht yester day. The market wns about steady on ( rood Krades of steers suitable for the dressed beet trade. There were verr few corn led cattle In of any kind and no peed natives , althoueh there was some Inquiry for them. The mar ket was a shade easier on common western cattle. Quite a string ol Texas cattle was sold to the local packers. There were thirty loids of hoKsnnthn market , which was a gain ot four loads as compared with yesterday. The market opened about lOc lower and w s not very ac tive at thu decline. Lttor , when the reports were received from Chicago , the market eased oil and closed fully 15e. lower than yes terday. and weak , The hoes were all taken with the exception of one load. Hhoep.
