ISpoclal Telegram to the Ur.K.I Ilia usual hour's delay In the opening onjvccotint ot Its being the first day ot the month , together with the fact of no af ternoon session on Saturday , made the trad ing hours unusually brief to-day. Eventhcse | weie not especially crowded with business M Interesting features. There were large do- Ilverlos of Tvticat said to bo about 1,000,000 bushels of which ilutchlnson and Counsel' into sent put the greater part and most of tfe * receipts lodged In the hands of Fleming & Hoyden. There were reports ot more busi ness done In wheat In New York before the session here opened than had been known then/for iinonths before , but tlicro wan but a Might fluctuation In prices there. The mar- ket.here opened steady , with November at TlJ c , December 74c nnd May TOc. Although there wa a fair volume of business , prices fltictuatcd loss that } { a during the first hour. Ifubllp cables were strong , quoting No. 2 spring yto liliher and futures 411 higher- News from abroad , how erer seemed to have little cltcct here , the trading 'wn chlelly loctl nnd the wheat bought during the first hour was for sal the next The attempt to realize on long wheat and the usual' evening up of a Saturday sent the market down. Added to tills was the Milling of large quantities ot December for New York and the depression reached its limit. Now York was also a buyer of October hero , but these purchases were without appreciable strengthening effect. The guesses on the visible supply statement on Monday are for a decrease of 600,000 bushels or thereabouts. The receipts to-day were eighty-one cars , of which litty- five were spring and live graded No. 3 , show ing rather better quality In comparison with the arrl vMs for the past fortnight The esti mated receipts for Monday are nmety-livo .cars. The low point ot the day was , reacUed about noon and then followed a reaction to the opening ligiucs. the close being at 72Xo for November , 74c lor December and 7l > . ! ( $ 79'ic for May. CiThe corn market was colorless and feature- IMS. There was very little business done , llutchtnson was a seller and there was a story ulloat that be was now evenlnir up nil around In pursuance of a resolution to with draw from thn market altogether a rumor which WAB geiieinlly received with a smile of " Incicillblllty. Tneso sales were chlelly for October , and this , coupled with the decided falllng-otT in the demand for cash corn to day , made that month quite we.ik. The decline in May was but } ( c. The deliveries of corn to-day wern practically nothing. The receipts to-day were but 205 cirs about 60 less than were expected , and reports received hern cow Indicates even smaller receipts In the near future because of the very bad con dition of country roads caused by the recent rains. The lifeless market did not seem to be particularly affected either by this sort of news or by the unfavorable cables , which gave spot grain In Liverpool > d lower nnd all the near futures lowwr. Vessel room was taken hero io-day tor 141,000 bushels of corn. TVo openlnir tills morning was a fraction above ycsterclr.y's closing figures at 43 0 November. 428'c for December Bnd 45&c for May. A slight advance was scored early In the day , but this \ > as lost later and the close was at a low point 4'JKc for No vember , 42 o tor December and 45 > c lor May. Oats for future delivery were dull to-day , there being very llttlo Interest shown In the deal hy room trades , and no outside orders to speak of. In provlHloub the week closed iu a quiet manner. I'liu controlled condition of short ribs and pork confined the deliveries on Oc tober contracts to lara , which , I'Ovrevor , Nvaa passed around only to a small extent and In the day's trading there was scarcely enough life to maintain any Interest. Trades of all classes were Indifferent to branch out and barring the buying of a prominent speculator of January lard , purchases and oales were directed , to the even me up of contracts. Chanties in values wore also moderate and at the close pork for year and January showed the limited advance ot 5c , lard a decline of OXQSoand January short ribs an Improve ment of 2Xc.
