but little better treated than Ord.
You do not conlino your defense of rates
in Nebraska to your own road , but you tin-
tierlako to defend time rates charged in Nebraska -

defended. The only defense which can be

have done and am yet doing the deadly
work , It is those wIn , make these exorbitant

struggle may bo prolonired but while justice
amid right survive in time world of traflic
time final re.simlt cannot be doubtful. I would
be rejoiced If a reasonable adjustment of
rates could be made in a spirit of mimutual concession -
cession and with just regard for the rights
of the people of the state , and aritation and
contention cease. But there will be no turn-
log hack from the demand for a nmateriai and
substantial reduction of rates in this state.
If further legislation is needed to effectually
accomplish this result , in duo time it sviil
come , nnd when It cornea It may osslbly be
met with the remembrance of wrongs not
redressed amid appeals for night and justIce
unanswered. Better were It for tbe railroads
that a readjustment of rates vero speedily
made than to further add insult to Injury
and further wrongs too grievous to be borne.
